Melted 250 ex torch

I was told I could use torch without water cooler as long as I did not go over 200 so I kept it at 130 and it still melted wtf I guess its time for the weld craft 300 wasn't a big fan of the torch but I only used it a few times but the welder was pretty nice welded just as well as a dynasty 200 I do a lot of field work and dont have time to lug the cooler around with me

nope did the same thing . have to run water cooling . i got a air cooled torch when i weld mobile and use the water cooled at shop

I think the way it should have been stated. You can use a non water cooled torch under 200 but over 200 you need a water cooled torch. I don't think you can use a water cooled torch, without water, at all.

If you stay close to a water hose, no need for a cooler. The water hose can be bushed down to work on the torch, and all you need is a nice flower bed that needs a little free water on it.

But at least your power cable was filled with water. Without that, they only last seconds. The power cable in a typical water cooled setup is only about 10 gauge wire, it really depends on the fluid to stay in one piece. Compare that with the size of your ground cable...

Bought it a few months ago but just received it a few weeks ago because of backorder I like the machine but not happy with info I had received about using torch I hear you will be in my area for farm days could I talk with someone there I happen to live in the same town

what torch were you using on the dynasty?

I think it was a ck 17 air cooled

I melted down my WP17 as well. The hose that goes over the power conductor is nylonish and it doesn't take much heat. Its not rubber like the jacket on a welder cable.

All I need is new hose and a seath and mine will be as good as new. I've got it rewired as an air cooled torch using a piece of welder cable for now.

A 17 is limited to 150 amps DC and somewhere around 125 AC. If you go over that, you are asking for troubles. Are you referring to the WP 18?

WP9, WP17 are air cooled while WP20, WP18 are the water cooled versions that share the same hardware. Be careful using a water cooled torch with a plain cable. Not only are the power cables cooled by the water, the torch is too. You can overheat the torch head and ruin it, running it without water. If you want air cooled, get an air cooled torch and cables.

Just ordered a weld craft 300 air cooled torch that should fix my problem thanx for all the advice live and learn I guess.

I am thinking about wiring my cooler to the welder side of the switch/breaker so the cooler automatically comes on when welder is on, assuming the cooler switch is on.

that's what i did i rewired my 250ex so when welders turned on the cooler comes on also
