    Post No High Friq

Finally got around to trying the tig on my 250 EX today and after fixing the gas line that was plumbed wrong on the torch only to discover I have no HF start. I tried 2T and 4T mode and switched from peddle to torch with no change. I can scratch start and the lift arc works but with HF there is nothing, not even a buzz. I will call Mike tomorrow. On the gas like: The water flows into the line that attaches to the power line? This was the line that had the quick fitting on it but the gas just went out the other hose like the coolant would flow to cool the torch. I checked the flow of each line and connected the one that passed through the torch.
On a side note; the SuperCut 50 you need to include spacers and longer screws so you can attach the regulator to the unit. Otherwise the regulator will not fit in the supplied bracket.

    Wayne,

This is one reason we ask you to immediately test the machine...It saves a lot of down time and frustration. If it is a shipping issue, many of them aren't externally visible.
The air cooled torches are indeed plumbed this way, but the problem is that some of the watercooled torches got plumbed this way too. Not all, but some of them did. The large line, as you discovered is the discharge line, and the shiny smooth line is the Argon line. The remaining small, but visibly braided line is the in line for the water.

Where are your start amps set? Try turning the start amps up. When you scratch start, are you in HF?

Have you tried it on AC yet? Does it work on AC? Possibly a point gap issue or a wire has come off in shipping.

The start amps are at 100+ and yes it will scratch start when in HF mode but no HF arc start. The lift start works a lot like scratch start with the electrode sticking to the part so I'm not so sure it's working correctly or am I expecting something else.

Lift start takes a light touch, just barely touching the torch to the metal and instantly lifting up. It takes a little coordination, but the electrode should get quite hot instantly.

    Mark,
AC will not start in HF mode. I'll call you a little later.

Got it worked out. The HF points were closed and the pot on the foot switch was wacked out. This is crap; you should not have to repair brand new things when you buy them. I appreciate the fact that the good guys at Everlast are willing to go the extra mile to help but they really need to get the quality under control. Not many people want to be held up and fix their NEW machines.
