Thread: How do I wire up a P80 for CNC use ?

  1. Default How do I wire up a P80 for CNC use ?

I'm putting together a CNC plasma cutter.

How do I wire up a P80 with HF start to a plasma table ?

I bought a machine torch for it.

What is the torch connector on the P80 called and where do I get one ?

How do I "isolate" the CNC machine electronics from the HF start of the torch ?

    Thanks

    HI Someguy
If this the the P80 torch you have it is very simple. It has a pilot arc connection and a gas connection (plasma power) on the torch you may need to get a converter to connect you plasma unit to the gas (power) connector. I am using my PM256 plasma output on my table and I needed to get an adapter between the two. And for the plasma on/off you connect it to the CNC controller output for switching plasma on/off but use a ferrite core around the cable at the controller end. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...ource=googleps
On my PM256 it is the same connector on the front for tig trigger and plasma trigger. If you have a CNC output on your plasma cutter it normally is pins 1 & 2 on the connector.

You should also ground the plasma unit, controller, and table to a earth ground (8' rod into the ground near the setup) all my motor and other connecting cables have ferrite cores and outer shielding tied to the controller ground.

    Havwe fun
