Thread: PP50 problem

    Default PP50 problem

    Hello all,
I have a PP50. It has worked flawlessly until today. The last use was a week or so ago. It worked fine. I finished the cuts, let the fan run for a few and then shut the machine down. Today I went out to make some cuts and.....Problem!
Turned machine on, All is well.
Checked air pressure, all is well.
Grounded the metal, pulled the trigger, I got air flow, but no pilot arc or cutting.
Checked the swirl ring, all is well.
    Replaced the electrode, same thing.
    replaced the tip, same thing.
Adjusted post flow, switched from constant to timed and back several times, no change.
Switched from 2T to 4T and back, no change.

Is there an adjustment for the pilot arc? like a contact gap or something?
My machine sits on a dedicated cart with a dedicated air line, hard wired by an electrician.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Josh

Gently pull the torch apart. Likely the wire has come off the switch...Or the saftey pin on the torch head is stuck or not working to keep the unit from firing.

I did pull the torch apart today, just for good measure. As I said in my original post, the unit acknowledges the trigger pull and starts the air. There is no pilot arc and therefore, no cutting. Below is a pic of the unit just powered up. Click image for larger version.

The only change from pic one to pic two, is the air pressure reading slightly lower because it is flowing. It flows for a few seconds(with flow time all the way left) and stops.Click image for larger version.

If you touch the nozzle to the metal while the trigger is held, do you get sparks or an arc? Did you check the fuse?

I tried touching to grounded metal and the ground directly.Nothing.
Checked the fuse with a meter, shows good. Looks good to the eye as well.

I have removed the work lead euro connector and the ground lead and reconnected both, several times. All looks clean, I even used a small flat head screwdriver to press the collet in the euro socket on the machine tighter. I opened the euro connector and checked for loose or broken wires, all good.

Just to make sure that it was not the fuse, I got a replacement and tried it. Still no pilot arc or cutting arc........
I pulled the cover off of the machine. Everything inside looks good to the naked eye. No blown capacitors, no melted wires or burnt paths on any circuit boards. Slightly frustrating. This was a great little machine till now. I am sure that it is something simple, I just can not find it. Is there anything else that I can try to diagnose this??? Or is it time to call for warranty?

Just check your plug and make sure one wire isn't loose or pulled out...then give us a call.
