SuperCut 50P Plasma On Dirty Steel

I tried my Supercut 50P on some dirty 7 ga high tensile steel sheet i had for about 25 years, It is a corrosion resistant product that skims over the outside with a small film of rust and seals the sheet from rusting thru.The bottom of this sheet had some contact with the ground with caused some pitting. No grinding or cleaning was done to this sheet , i used a broom to sweep some gravel dust off the top and started cutting. The parts i am making do not need to be pristine just need to clean the edges with a grinder and weld them up.As they will see only flame and fire for the rest of there life.I was impressed with this little machine the arc was straight and tru and made a very good cut. I used 90 psi flow from my larger compressor and it did just fine, setting was on 32 . As you can see from the pics it had a little slag but that is to be expected from steel that is not clean. I have used some other small plasma models and not had the same success as this machine it cuts as good as my son in laws new $1200.00 miller.

That really is a nice cut for some old dirty steel. I've never had a plasma; somehow I've always convinced myself I wouldn't use it and I'd need a better cut with a bandsaw, holesaw, cut off wheel, etc. but the more I see nice cuts like this and of course the value of a machine like this I think I'll be putting it into my budget sooner than later. That really is a clean cut. Impressive. Looking at the Everlast line-up the 50P would be my choice also for what I work with.

I have only used a plasma cutter a hand full of times but I can tell you they are worth their weight in gold. Most of the cuts I have made are on thinner stuff which could have easily been done with a saw but would have taken a fair amount more time. I have however cut some 1/2 and it was no problem with a plasma cutter, had I used a saw it would have taken forever and probably worn out a blade or 2. If you ever use a plasma cutter you will buy one.
