Default Gas Mixing Argon/CO2 From Separate Tanks

Anyone know of a good way to mix blend your own gases usinga separate Argon & CO2 bottles? I really don't want to spend 1500 bucks or more for a gas mixer and would rather just make something on my own that might work well.

Don't waste your time. It will never be consistent without a mixer.
Really not worth it when Argon / CO2 mixtures are pretty much the cheapest gas there is.

Go pick up a 75/25 or whatever you want to use. Mixing without a mixer will be nothing but a headache.

Maybe you can try something like what Jody demonstrates with the "Y" fitting noted here:

    Will that do it?
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Basically I already have the pure argon & co2 bottles and not looking to purchase another one with the combined mixed gases to save on space. Also it's a lot of trouble on changing the tanks for each type metal. It would be nice to have the adjustability to make your own mixtures so I would like to find an internal picture or diagram of a two or three gas mixer unit to make my own version. They're basically just flow control valves with regulators plumbed together from what I can tell. I don't believe the two flow control valves joint together with a Y-fitting would work too well without another flow control valve at the end line.

That's kinda what I've been searching for but would be nice to have another flow meter at the end before going into the welders.

I wonder if they make those Western valves with three inputs for the addition of some helium mixture.

Now it is not what you are asking... but when I went in for my TIG gas... Straight Argon, I just swapped a 75/25 for straight Argon. No extra charge. I own the tanks. The guy just wanted to confirm what gas I wanted.

I know in your situation you may not want to turn in a tank or swap for a small job... Just tossing it out there.

Several years ago I worked for a family owned machine shop. They made their own setup similar to the one above. They used the three bottle set up. It's been a long time ago and I cant remember all the details.

just buy 2 valves and stack them then you end up with 3 inlets and 1 outlet or use a pex manifold with valves Click image for larger version.
