Thread: Project 1 from Bobwills summer rerun. box culvert grates

  1. Default Project 1 from Bobwills summer rerun. box culvert grates

I had to make these metal grates for work. There was four of them. Two had to fit in like a 29" hole or something. They were a custom fit. They fin in a wall getting bolted there to keep people and trash out. They were made out of 3" angle iron 1/4" thick. The rebar was #6 bar. I cut all the rebar with a hydrolic shear. Cut all the angle iron with an ol chop saw. It really pays to have a good one. Had to use a square to get everything as close to perfect as i can so the unsquare cuts it makes aint even worse. I spent a few days on them doing everything but I wasnt just working on them. Prolly would of only took two days if I worked only on them. For spacing I just cut a few little wood blocks. Plans called for 3" by 11" spacing of the rebar but it wasnt right for the size. Also the measurement for the longest angle iron wasnt right and the first one was all out of square. Welded everything together with a miller 251. All in all went good.

Funny thing we had to weld some round drain covers in that was at a school into its holder because some kid thought it would be funny to pull the cover out and another little kid was walking through and fell in it.

Bob, project looks good. All looks straight from here.

For real! I had a girl walk out infront of me the other day while she was texting and had ear buds in. I seen her coming so I had already slowed down but you could tell it scared the poo out of her! She looked up and there I was. I think she was oblivious that she had already walked out into the parking lot. Maybe she will learn from that. Had it been another teen texting while driving she would have been hit.

I know you are just being funny, however it is tramatic to even be in a car and hit someone. When I was 15, I was riding with a friend when a little kid ran out infront of him. The kid ran right into the side of the car and rolled across the windshield. I just knew he was dead. Luckly he just busted his chin open. Needless to say the kids parents sued my friends parents altho it was totally not his fault and he did everything to avoid the kid (swerved into head on traffic to try and miss the kid).

Screwed up deal.... Atleast the kid didnt get hurt...

Yea, vehicles and cell phone are bad. I see dumb stuff about everyday, pass someone to see they are on the phone or looking at it.

My boys have had it drilled in them, no phone use in the car, and no horse play with friends while on the road..

Cell phone users are worse than party types to me as they are out there all the time, not just late at night on weekends or late at night. Cell phones are 24/7/365 it seems.

And Shane, glad the kid was not hurt. Red, funny

Sorry, the little smartass in me just could't resist. I have been on both ends of close calls before and I know it isn't any fun. Lessons that are fatal don't do much teaching, so anything you can walk away from is good I guess.

It seems to me that people are becoming the center of their own universe with little regard for how their actions affect others. Every time we go to the city it just seems to be worse, either that or I'm becoming an old fart before my time.

Nah you're OK, or that would bet my bet, or I am an old fart too.

Nobody I meet that thinks they are an expert in about anything impresses me anymore. I have done a lot in my lifetime. People expect too much with little or no effort today. I hope people vote in another direction this time. We can keep rolling the dice until we get it figured out, or maybe fire the government (can't fire the parents; but could arrest them )?
