Thread: overheat light PowerTIG 185 Micro

  1. Default overheat light PowerTIG 185 Micro

    gday,
i purchased a PowerTIG 185 Micro over the weekend. was running a couple of welds and was pretty happy with the way it was performing for my needs. However i was just playing around to see what it could do and exceeded the duty cycle and the overheat light came on. problem is it now wont go off. i let the machine stay on for half an hour, turned it off for ten mins and now left it overnight. but it is still on. i am starting to think something has been fried inside somehow. all i get when i try to weld is the hf zap thats it. any advice would be great as i live in the country 3 hours from town, so i not looking forward to driving back after only using the machine for an hour

    cheers mick

Are you running the welder on 120v or 240v? I'm not sure about the 185 micro, but most dual voltage welders have a reduction in duty cycle on 120v. Typically speaking if you have any trouble its usually in the first day. I'm not sure if there is a way to wipe away the memory.

Yes, it would be good to know what voltage, and to confirm your wire colors that you are using and the voltage you have at the plug. I believe these units have fuses internally (someone will correct me if I am wrong) which can blow.

What were you doing when it went into overheat?

yep it looks like an internal fuse has blown. not sure why as yet. i had been using the machine for nearly an hour. i was welding a piece of 6mm plate to 3mm rhs and the light came on when i finnished the run.
