Had to set the timing on my old tractor, needless to say the vibration damper had paint and a light film of rust on it so you could not see the timing marks. It was about a 2.5 hour job removing sheet metal and shrouds and the alternator to clean and mark the damper. My hand and arm were not small enough to get there. I had my oldest daughter run the tractor while we made this tool and used it. I took a 3/8" piece of aluminum tubing added a little bend and an SS Brush that cleaned the pulley, a piece of soapstone to fill the timing marks, and a sharpie marker to mark 17 degrees.Saved a lot of time and it worked. They will probably have these at HF this winter.
