Hi guys, noob here. I just got my new PowerPro 256 last week.

I'm a hobby welder, mostly flux-core and stick with a buzz box. I do a bit of machining with my RF45 clone and I dabble in heat treating with my 2 Paragon kilns.

So far I've only run a few beads of 7018 with the new unit, but what an improvement over the buzz box! I can't wait to get some more hours on this thing.

I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions!

Thanks, I do have a few pics of it on photobucket already. Here are some.

I took this one after purchasing the two 6" CNC vices from SHARS, I think the ER40 collet chuck was brand new at the time too.
The scrap on the shop fox on the corner-o-shame is my seig X2 mill, I really need to get around to finishing the rebuild on that thing some day.

Here I'm shaping up some cast iron in my sine vices. The iron will be stress relieved and hand scraped into a master surface for scraping in the X2

Here I'm machining a custom triple clamp for my motorcycle. I'd say it came out pretty well.

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of my 45, it's a good little mill.

Nice... I'm going to buy a mill when I get my shop finished. I'd also like to do a cnc conversion.

Yeah, I'd like to cnc mine too. That was the plan, but now I'm starting to think I'd be better off getting a Bridgeport and cnc'ing that.

    'bout tree fiddy

The nice thing about owning your own stuff is you make the rules, but I won't be launching anything into space with this chinese mill anyhow ha ha!

I imagine I will be needing some help sooner or later, so thanks! After watching most of Jody's vids, I feel like I can do it too because he makes it look so easy. I'll find out soon enough the first time I light up.

A cnc mill is on my list as well.... What I was planing on doing is just buying extra steppers and making the control box mobile between my CNC router, CNC plasma (future), and a CNC mill (future). But you know the story, not enough time, money, or space.

You could save space by making the router/plasma a single dual purpose machine. They are the ones that are space hogs.

Welcome to the forum. That is quite a nice setup you've got there, wish I could justify (or just plain afford) all that tooling.

That can in the first pic doesn't look familiar to me and I like to try as many different lubricants as possible. Is it a local thing?

Thanks! Sometimes I wonder about some of the things I have, but they have all been used. Some have been used and abused!

Thanks for the link, zoama585, I'm still not sure of the status quot here, and didn't want to get in trouble on my first day

It is pretty hard to get in trouble around here; heck, GUNNER was tolerated even when he was at the top (or maybe that should be bottom) of his game!

It's worth trying if you get the chance. Nothing life-changing, but a very decent beer.
I guess I'll read some about GUNNER as I hang around.

Thanks, not to get all mushy, but it seems like a good bunch of guys here. I think I'll learn a lot.
The mill is nice to have. Whipping a part out by yourself really comes in handy sometimes.
You can even do lathe-type operations with it for small stuff.

Isn't that the name of a panda at the national zoo?

My favorite factoid about Yuengling, from Wikipedia:
"After the 18th Amendment was repealed in 1933, Yuengling sent a truckload of "Winner Beer" to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in appreciation, which arrived the day the amendment was repealed — particularly notable since Yuengling beer takes almost three weeks to brew and age."

He doesn't come around much anymore, was mostly on the 250EXT thread from early this year. He actually seemed a decent fellow when he wasn't drunk and angry, just not a good combination for posting.

Gotcha. I'm on quite a few different boards, and I've seen a few characters. You know the old saying, 'It takes all sorts to make a world'

As an aside, I got to try out the plasma cutter today. After two quick calls to tech support because 1 I'm retarded and 2 the instructions aren't very clear at all, I was cutting steel. This thing is awesome! I'm used to having to break out the oxy torch to do the same thing. I think it's incredible that it can be done without any combustible gas! Much less smoke and mess too
