Thread: FNG from Mobtown

  1. Default FNG from Mobtown

    Hi Folks,

Not an experienced metalworker, but I can reconfigurate tree parts pretty well.
I just ordered a 140st. Haven't even received it yet.

I own a Lincoln 180c mig that I've learned to stick stuff together with, but even though some of my beads look OK, I don't know too much about the mechanics of welding.

To that end, I'm nearly done taking a 36 hour fundamentals welding class. My favorite methods so far are TIG and stick, so when I finished a side job last week and had some extra dough I bought the 140st. Kinda limited by what i have left in my panel box as to how big I could go. I like the portability the 110 option gives me anyway.

I bought the Lincoln to fab stuff for my motorcycle sidecar hobby, but now I have stick I'm dreaming up all sorts of metal projects around the house- fence & gate, grill, smoker, etc.

Anybody out there in Baltimore? Who owns a 140st? How do you like it? What have you built?

Howdy! Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few people here who own a 140st. I don't have one personally but it was on my shortlist of welders for a very long time until I bought my Everlast 185 micro. By all accounts, the 140st is a great welder. Very capable and extremely portable. You are going to love it! Again, welcome.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Greetings MotoJ! Never heard Baltimore called Mobtown before, had to look that one up! I'm not in Baltimore, but not too far south of you, around the DC Beltway. Congrats on your new machine, and good on ya for taking the welding class, get lots of exposure to different processes.

Welcome aboard. Seems like a lot of guys named FNG on the forum lately, what a coincidence.

Hope you will post some pics of your creations.
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

Thanks for the replies, guys. Can't wait to get the little welder and start melting.
Baltimore's also called Charm City. Don't know where that came from. Mobtown goes back to the Civil War, as you probably found out. It's more appropriate than Charm City even today, unfortunately.
