Thread: Synergic and Aluminum

    Default Synergic and Aluminum

I noted the MTS200S can handle aluminnum with the "Aluminum (with Synergic MIG function only)" Is this because the synergic is a pulse process?

This mode will also dynamically adjust as you weld. Pretty neat technology. You can google for "aluminum synergic MIG" and read up for more deatils. Also search our forum here.

Mark might want to write up and article if he has not already done so.

No, it isn't a pulse process. It simply means that the unit can be programmed with parameters and when you increase or decrease the voltage, the wire speed increases automatically to compensate based off of the pre programmed wire diameter and wire type (ie. steel, stainless, or aluminum). The unit does not have pulse, in short.

I did; if I am reading it correctly there appears some sort of modulation element to the process.

That's a technically incorrect document from what I perused. Synergic is anything that requires reduced input and automatically predicts the other settings. What they are referring to is SYNERGIC form of pulse, which requires little or no operator input besides basic parameters or a preprogrammed function, adjusted through one main control knob. But the article does also amend its own statement with this:Synergic control is also used in conventional MIG/MAG, in which the voltage is adjusted in relation to the wire feed. It is now possible to buy a 'synergic wire feeder' which performs this function in conjunction with a standard rectifier power source.
