    Default 250 ex problems

was welding on some .100 thick aluminum today and could not strick an arc without touching the materail ,then it would weld just fine and when i stopped had to touch again to get the arc started again, gas was at around 7 lpm 3/32 lanthanated tungsten,i even tried to strike arc on my ground clamp to make sure it was not a grounding issue, still same thing happened also my gas has been staying on when i am done welding almost like i have my post flow on,but i dont, then sometimes when i push on my pedal again it goes off.

The switch on your foot pedal may be hanging. Make sure it rocks fully down on the switch, or it may need to be adjusted. Have you tried it with the torch switch? Are you getting any spark at all? If so, then it probably needs a point gap adjustment.

What are your settings....and did you examine the pedal switch for sticking or not fully operating? You can try to widen the gap a little more. Can you lift start?

.030 to .040 is fine. Does it work with the torch switch? Remove the pedal and see it is welds. If it does we can look into the foot pedal.

Also sounds like maybe the solenoid is sticky, have you called tech support, they can walk you through the solenoid, spring sometimes is a little tight.

OK..set gap to .045 and still the same thing so i am gonna set them at .030 and try them again ,not comfortable trying to reset them again after i already had machine on so i am gonna wait till tommorow and try again.

Do you have the switch on the control panel set for TIG (HF)? If not your in tig lift mode and it works the way you describe.

Follow the same steps, try the torch switch, check the points.

Make sure your preflow isn't cranked up.

I did try the trigger switch and checked the preflow. Same result. When I first turned it on it worked three time on the pedal and with the trigger and then it stopped again and would have to scratch start again. How do you check the points?

Give tech support a call and they will walk you through it. You are basically checking the gap between them with a feeler gauge. There are also some wire connections they will have you check.

  18. Default update

I talked to Ray today with tech support. He walked me threw the troubleshooting. Come to find out when I put the welder on my new cart I must have unplugged all the leads. When I hooked it back up I put the ground lead in the negative port and the tig torch in the positive port. Human error on my part. All is good now.

Normally the tungsten will burn up on you. But it's always best to post pictures of the machine and welds if you can.

Glad you are up and running again.
