    Default Welding Hood From Germany

Saw this handheld hood at a friends house in OT Klausdorf Germany this week, It has thumb operated flip up lens looks like it seals up pretty good also.I could not see any light around the gasket.Looks homemade but not sure he said it was very old.

I don't think that style will catch on for tig welding, unless you have a third arm and hand to use it,,,,I wonder how long it took for people to realize you could hang a hood on your head and free up your other hand.

Does that open to the inside? That'd drive me absolutely insane. Neat piece though, for sure.

It does flip inside, I have never seen anything like it, being thumb operated it is sure different. I am guessing it is from the late 50's early 60's.
Not sure if someone took an old helmet and added the handle and flip up, it does look like it was custom made though.

I do not use handhelds anymore as i had a piece of hot spatter from some 1/16" flux core wire enter my right ear and exit onto my lower front molar and thru my tongue.
Too say the least when i could talk i said a few things out loud.
I was watching an employee do an overhead weld on a trailer frame and caught a stray hot one. That one took a while to heal.
