Thread: PP50 arrived with familiar problem

  1. Default PP50 arrived with familiar problem

Hi I am new to the forum. I received my Power Plasma 50, wired an outlet for it, hooked it up, set the outside air limit to 80 psi, and it cut beautifully. When I shut it off I heard an air leak inside. From reading the forums this has been a problem for nearly three years! The online manual says this is not a warranty return issue so I disassembled the unit and found the leak at the bottom of the air pressure adjustment knob's rear module. This is a connector that I am not familiar with. It looked to be a threaded connector but no amount of force I could apply (without breaking the front bezel or the knob assembly) could break it loose. It is somewhere between a 13mm and a 14mm, it is really hard to get a good grip on it. What have other members done to repair this? It continues to function with the air leak, should I just leave it as is and deal with having to disconnect the air line every time I am done with it? Do the chinese have their own units of measurement it does not seem to be an english or metric size and a little soft for my preferences. If I cut the hose (point of no return) I could probably get a full closed end wrench around it but......................

I have not had any problems like that with mine...no problems at all.
I'm sure it's an easy fix and someone on here can help you out....don't start cutting things!!

It is the internal air hose connection from the back bezel to the pressure adjustment knob. The connector is identical on both ends, some kind of compression connector I would guess. The bummer is that I cant just put a different hose and clamp on it as I have to remove the existing connector first. I have read a few posts that say this is a familiar problem and that it was an easy repair. I feel I would have to remove boards or the whole front bezel to get enough leverage on the connector to remove it. As it is now the fitting is starting to deform as I can only get a crescent or 14mm open end on it and it slips off. What I need is a 13.5 mm wrench! WTF????

What I can't believe is that this has not been addressed. The youtube review on this forum illustrates the problem, and I have seen posts elsewhere as far back as 2010.

There are a million kinds of plastic connectors and many of them have very strange ways of coming apart. Many times plastic fittings do not have the best sized hex and are often tapered. There are special wrenches just for that purpose. Is the leak from the threads or form what you are calling a compression fitting? Yes, most Chinese threaded pressure fittings are British Standard pipe, not National Pipe thread.

QC is always an issue, and part of the deal in something like this. What is the line pressure going into the unit? It should not be more than 90 psi. Have you called tech support?

sounds like a real pain.... is the leak so bad it is worth the trouble of taking it apart? I know it shouldn't be leaking but if it is a small leak I don't think I would bother with it.

It is a push to connect fitting. I think it is a british fitting. (If you are talking about the clear hose with the blue/or other color plastic collar around it.) IF it is leaking there, simply press the collar with a small screwdriver (careful to press evenly if possible, maybe use your fingers if possible) and slide the hose out. Check for squareness of cut on the hose. Also when you reinsert, make sure it slides fully home. You do not need to press the collar to reinsert it.

Thanks I'll give it a try.

I had the same problem when mine arrived. Air was leaking from around the hose. I just Ignored it. A MUCH larger problem happened to me 2 weeks ago. The air hose inside the machine SPLIT! The compressor is set to deliver at 80psi. As I my CNC was cutting, I heard a loud POP, peaked under the the cover of the machine and saw a large split in the hose. I emailed tech support 2 weeks ago (the night that it happened) with pictures and so forth, and asked what my options were of buying a new hose or whatnot but I am yet to get a reply from them. Really starting to irk me that I haven't recieved a reply being I just purchased a mig welder from them a few weeks prior to this. I red-necked it up and wraped it with electrical tape to get me by for now... hardly. The will be hearing from me again soon. I need to work my work around my work's work schedule.

Which address did you send the email to? You may have sent it to the wrong place. I do know we've had one email that seems to be broken at the server. I am not sure, but I am sure it wasn't intentionally overlooked. A phone call is usually the best way, then follow up with an email.

I'd double check your input pressure and gauge accuracy...sometimes we have found the customer's gauge was off by 10-20 lbs.
