Thread: everlast powerultra 205 on 110v

  1. Default everlast powerultra 205 on 110v

I set up the machine to run on 110v was informed by tech support that the functionality might not be that great. I was hoping to work with some 1/8 and smaller carbon and stainless sheet. I was wondering if anyone has set up on 110 and had trouble or if it's kind of a necessity to have 220, which is doable, I was just hoping to get some use out of 110v.

    Thanks for any input.

For what process? I can see light TIG and stick, but probably not much plasma on 120V.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

You can use it, but it is not optimized for 120V use, particularly if the line voltage is a little less than 110V. Actually performance will be somewhat less than half on 110V. It will work, but for plasma use you will need a smaller diameter nozzle for it to stably run the plasma. I believe the S-25 consumables which are rated for this amp range will fit on the s-45 and will help arc stability, and you'll likely need to use less air pressure. Output I believe will be around 80-90 amps for TIG on 120V. Plasma will be about 25-27 amps. Stick 70-80 amps. Plus they will need a 20 amp breaker. A 120V 30A would even be better for maximum performance. But you'll need to change the plug configuration for this many amps.

I have a lot of guys that buy them that expect the same level of performance out of the units on 120V as they get out of 240V...not going to happen. Just can't. Not at 200 amps output...or at 50 amps output on plasma that is putting out close to 100 V cutting.

Far as the TIG, with 110vac/30A you can get about 90 amps out. That would do what you need, but for the trouble of getting 110/30, I would think it has to be easier to get 220vac.

Another option, buy a small 5500watt generator just for the welder. We run the IMIG200 on one all the time for mobile welding.

Not to hijack, but I thought a bigger generator was needed for 200 amp machines? Or is that for running it on 110?

Bigger is better. But that is what we run on all the time with flux core outside. The IMIG-200 is rated under 30 amps so it will work. See the IMAX rating before trying to run on a generator.
