Thread: Wheeling, WV checking in.

  1. Default Wheeling, WV checking in.

Hello, all. I just purchased a PowerTig 250 EX. I'm fairly new to TIG welding. The only machine I've ever used was a Lincoln TIG 225 and just recently a 250 EX that a local guy purchased. I don't think I'll have much to contribute as I'm still as green as they come. I hope you guys don't mind all the questions to come.

Hey, AWDnot2, welcome! What kind of projects do you have in mind for your welder?

    First, Practice. Lots of practice.

Mainly small garage shop projects. Aluminum and stainless tubing, 1/4" - 1/2" flanges.

I received everything except for the water cooler and extra collets / collet bodies.
The first thing I noticed was the size of the Wp18 torch body. I can tell right now that's it's going to be cumbersome.
I'm going to get a Wp20. I think it would a little easier to manage. I'm researching weld tables now, however I'm thinking with material being readily available locally, I'm probably just going to build my own.

I'm in the same boat with the table. And welding in general. I just bought 50' of 1x1x1/8" tubing for the frame and should hopefully be at it soon. What dimension are you thinking about? I was thinking about going 4' high, 2' wide and 5' long. Maybe 2'x5' 14 guage sheet for the top with 1/2" plates to reinforce for a vice and stuff. Still planning it out. Post some photos too if you get the chance.

Cheers and welcome to the forum.

Most welding tables are 32-35" high , width and length vary on how much room you have, try and use some 3/4" or 19 mm bolts for adjustable feet on your table. This will let you level it in place and have years of use without it warping or getting out of square.
