i anxiously await my new welder, the powerpro 256... but since ive never used a tig welder im tryin to make good use of my time... i got a copy of millers book on tig welding, most of which is over my head but some is sticking on its way thru.. i have also been watching a lot of tig videos on welding tips and tricks... got a booklet on tungsten but haven't gotten to it yet. i also have a couple of videos by ron covell. ive watched both but plan to watch each again.
any other suggestions on other ways to learn.. i know practice, practice, practice... lincoln has a week long tig welding class... any recommendations..

I've looked into night or weekend classes in my area. Haven't found anything that fits my schedule but it is a matter of time.

The opportunities I've had to take week long classes in different crafts in different cities have always been a terrific experience.

Check the trade shows in your area; I bet that would be enlightening.

Find the cooperative scrap dealer in your area, that in itself is a valuable tool to have.

Finally look for the metalworking clubs in your area, you will not only network and make good contacts but you will find knowledgeable resources there who are interested in giving back to their community.

Wow, PowerPro 256. Nice! Well, I think you are well on the right track. You have the enthusiasm and the willingness to learn. Definitely watch the videos. Even courses might not give you the perspective of what the puddle looks like and behaves when welding correctly like the TIG videos that Jody puts out. Professional instruction along side that is invaluable. Reading will give you some of the theory and that's good too. Many of the forum members here are really helpful from everything from electrical power requirements, wiring, welding supplies as well as welding tips and machine settings. found a couple of tig classes... miller offers a week long class up near cleveland and hobart offers a 2 week class near troy, oh. thats only about a 3 hr drive for me and 2 weeks may offer more... gonna look into both but probably stay near home... im retired so time is not a problem... money is always questionable... im an artist so if i sell a few things i can do a class or a new toy...

You never know, you might have some natural talent that will come out when you start welding with your welder. You might not even need any courses to start if you've done your homework and get the hang of it by practicing, practicing, practicing. It's great fun and yeah, if you can make a bit of money through your artistic work, you are golden!
