Thread: Ottoman/Coffee Table

    Default Ottoman/Coffee Table

100% my design, completely custom, and the first piece of furniture I have ever built. What do you think. What should I sell it for? Wonder if Everlast will trade me for a Plasma Cutter lol?

Here are the details on this piece:

    36" square by 17" tall.
3/4" 16 gauge steel tubing was used for the frame.
3/16th" plate steel was used for the feet.
1/2" reclaimed plywood was used for the upholstered inserts.
Upholstery is a "wheat" colored faux Emu leather for easy clean up.
Paint is a "Dark Bronze" hammer finished.
I-MIG200 was used to weld it up. (couldn't be happier with the welder at this point. I have a very small gas leak that I need to find. But other than that I love it)

These are the legs all welded up.

This is the frame all welded up.

And here it is complete and ready to be sold.

Very nice. Do you weld tabs in the back and attach the panel from the inside? How is the weight with all the sq tube. Looks VERY rich though. Oleg would have to comment on the plasma cutter. He might need a couple more pieces

I to am attached to the IMIG-200, that and a PP50 will make you lots of projects/cash for sure.

Thank you. Not on this one. I plan on building more though that are based on this frame but all slightly different from the next. No two will be 100% the same and access points where something I was going to attempt at some point. I'm still very limited on tools. More complex designs will require more tools. I built this with and angle grinder, drill, jig saw, an electric staple gun, a couple wrenches, and my I-MIG200.

Thing on my to buy list are, Table saw, Plasma cutter, large shop compressor, paint gun, powder coating setup, metal band saw, metal scrolls, metal brake, Picket twister, and the coveted plasma table. Maybe even a forge and anvil too.

lmao just a small list of things. Nothing to expensive lol.

I was going to weld the tabs but opted out for a few reasons. I was tired of cutting metal with an angle grinder. The plywood is only 1/2 thick so I was worried about strength. What if someone stands on it and it breaks? And I wanted to make those bolt heads functional. So I cut 5 more pieces of 1/2 plywood, one for the top and one for each side. These are bolted to the inside of the frame and each of the individual panels are attached to that. It's very strong.

As far as weight... I'm not sure. I don't have a way to weigh it at the moment. Need to go buy a bathroom scale or something. If I had to guess I'd say between 50 and 70 pounds. But I'm thinking much closer to 50 pounds than 70.

Well it still looks really good. Cosmetics will sell. Shipping weight will help sell it too, so 1/2" plywood and steel is something to think about in the future.
