Anvil's That are In Use In My Shop

A lot of you talking about Blacksmith Work and Anvils, Here are the 2 that i own and use, Larger one on the block is 208 pounds and 33" long maker is unknown, The smaller one is 22" long 74 pounds and was made in Sweden. These come in handy for lots of things, I make a few custom branding irons for people from time to time and some BBQ forks by splitting rounds 2-3 times to make the forks on the end.

I would think heavily about removing important body parts to own that 200 pounder. I looked for MONTHS before finding an anvil in my local area to start with. It's a tiny 60-70 pound Ferrier anvil. It does the job I need it to at times but I REALLY want a large Blacksmith anvil. Over 150 pounds. But all of the ones in my area are either a) beat to #### with uneven surfaces/edges, b) broken, c) way too damn much, a new anvil would be cheaper, or d) some combination thereof.

You sir are lucky to have such heavy iron.

Yeah i know this one is a nice one i have had 2 different people offer me $1200.00 for it and i turned them down. The small one was a farm auction find for $48.50 got lucky.Most of the GOOD Anvils in the midwest have been bought up by people who go to anvil shoots. Yes Anvil shoot's, They machine out the bottom to hold one pound on IMR 4320 or similar gun powder use peanut butter for a sealing compound and heavy paper for a gasket and a fuse about 24" long. They set them on a 3/4"-1" plate that is perfect level and light the fuse. I have video of this that i took 2 years ago in Marion Ks. It is a pretty wild site watching a 150 pound anvil go 125-150 feet into the air.

Run want adds in the free papers and craigslist. They will find you.

I walked a street in a tiny East Texas town, introduce myself at every shop and home and asked if they knew anyone with an anvil for sale. I found about 30 anvils, 6 for sale.

Don't bother with a blacksmithing event, there will be anvils aplenty and the price will take your breath away.

I've had two people call me out of the blue with Mouse Hole Anvils for sale. You get to be "known".

I believe "level" is the operative word here. What goes up must come down! A nice heavy anvil would be nice. Personally, I still need to look for a good vise but that is a different story ....

Nice hardware. Mine are more commonplace. And, when all I need is a good, solid surface to do some hammering over, I have an 18" segment of railroad track that does a surprisingly good job.
