The PowerMTS series has been updated for 2013 by revising and expanding the features of our line that we’ve had out for over two years to date. The New MTS 250S features expanded lift start DC TIG control function with up/down slope, and pre/post flow gas function for TIG, along with true synergic operation.


The MTS 250S is really a revised version of the older 200S. We’ve added 50 extra amps for MIG and DC lift start TIG for a total of 250 amps, and have added extra stick amps for a total of 200 amps. As we mentioned, the unit has also maintained the Synergic function which allows for faster and automatic adjustment of the welder through the use of one control knob. It also can be manually overridden at anytime. The unit also features the adjustable wave form, slope, gas and burn back controls. The unit also has memory function which stores favorite settings. This unit features spool gun and foot pedal operation (for TIG). Unique to this unit, the spool gun also can be used on a
synergic setting. Price is 1499.00 with pedal. Spool gun is optional.

Do they come with wheels for the whole range of wire size? Also, will they feed AL at the higher end without a spool gun and which sizes?

Wow, I thought that was a mis-print on the spool size (12lb vs 12"). The machine did not look that big. I use the max in my mig of copper coated steel at 8", and use the spoolgun for the oddball stuff (Aluminum, Flux Core, Stainless, and Silicon Bronze (Really Pretty for Brazing decorative stuff)). I was thinking of it for the synergic as the primary reason, and the real TIG (pedal, postflow) as a portable alternative for taking to the track for mobile repairs or on site fabrication. (I'll restrict aluminum tig to the home shop and the PowerPro256/Cooler setup).

No, it should be an 8" 12 lb roll. There is an effort to make it hold that much. Top to bottom end to end there's room, but the width isn't there...yet.

You don't have to put a big spool in it. Still portable.

Also, at 250 amps, the generator will have to be larger too handle it. We use the IMIG-200 for the mobile work, that and a spool gun are a great combo (flux core and no tank to lug also).

I bought the MTS250S because of its weight and that it is more portable then my 205P and it uses 8” rolls 12lbs if it held bigger rolls like the 12” .023 44lbs it would weigh as much as the machine. I got a deal at Princess Auto on .030 and .035 ER70S-6 wire 2lbs rolls 10 of each for $100.00 made by Lincoln now with my Spool Gun it is real portable with its 25 feet long cable. I can also change the wire speed right on the spool gun without go back to the machine, it does not get any better then that. I real like my MTS250S

When I ordered the MTS250S I ordered the Spool Gun with it is a MTS-SM 200-N it has the right plug for the MTS250S I have a SM 200-N for the Power I Mig 205P but it will not fit. The plug end is different and the wire feed knob is not connected but is on the gun anyway.

I agree that is a great combination. It's nice that you are able to make use of the feed knob with this combo. The 25 foot cord is icing on the cake.

The spool gun is different in the fact that the control is hooked up on the gun. The plug may or may not be different for some. Many of our i-MIGs have the same style plug as the mts. Mine does.

Are all the MIG machines capable of wire speed control from the spool gun if the wires were connected on the gun ? If no, which can and can not ?

These are pictures from March 2010. But still apply today if you want to hook up the pot on the 200 series. Open, remove two screws from pot, flip it over, break the power wire, put on common and other size (make sure you ohm so turning knob to high the pot goes lower in ohms), re-assemble. I did it for a friend, assume it is still working have not seen him in some time.

So I understand that the potentiometer is hooked to the motor directly to change the motor speed of the wire dive wheel the potentiometer will only change wire speed not anything else? I see on my MTS250S spool gun it uses three wires in the plug schematic wire 3,4 and 5 on the VR on the spool gun goes directly to the machine( VR is Variable Resister?) when it is being used I see that it changes everything on the machine voltage, wire speed and amps in Synergic mode or not. When it is hooked up to the machine the wire speed/amps controller knob will not work but the voltage one will still function. I also see that the wire feed roller stop working on the machines that’s good.
I can now cut the wire at the out end of the rollers on the machine and pull the Mig gun off and then plug in the spool gun, that make it easy to put the Mig gun back on and not have to feed the wire back in the rollers.
