That's the answer I was looking for. With the large size of the fan (thickness) I wasn't sure if that meant more pitch in the blades and lower RPM (quieter) or just a GIANT high speed fan (noisier). I'm glad it is the former. I didn't mean to wind anyone up over variable speed fans, it was just a question. Personally for shop equipment most fan noise is negligible. Compressors are another story, which is why I like to have mine live outside or once I put the pump and motor portion up on the roof.
