No 8 should do the trick, with a 50 amp breaker, you can verify this by using one of the many wire size calculators available on the web.

Thank you. I picked up the #8 wire, 50Abreaker, plug, receptacle and Argon bottle today. I should have it wired this weekend and the water cooler should be here Monday.

I have ran the stock 2.5 mm^2 cord supplied with the 250 EXT and had no problem stick welding at 200 amps. For power from the main barker, I have the machine tied to a 40 amp breaker with No. 8 wire. The No. 8 wire should be fine as long as it is not too long.

A 40 amp breaker would not work at my shop on the 250EX as I was getting 208 volts off the 3phase supply and the inrush would pop the breaker, so I had to run over reset the breaker and run back and turn on the 250Ex again so it would run before the capacitators bleed down,,,,worked fine once I got it started,,,,took me a while to figure out that 208 volts requires a larger breaker on the supply side for the in rush demand of the machine...if I had 220 or 240 volts a 40 amp breaker would be fine...
Some of those lies people tell about me, are true
