Default Hello from the Tampa, FL area

    Hey all.

I am big into the race scene and have a turbo car. Up until now I have either 1) had someone else do 100% of the work I needed, 2) just had them fabricate the pieces and I weld them at a customer's shop, 3) I fabricate at a customer's shop and have someone weld them for me, or 4) I fabricate at customer's shop and then I weld it.
I like to do as much of my own work as possible and decided that getting a TIG welder and other tools necessary to fabricate in my garage is now the way to go. It was becoming a hassle in order to do this because everything I was making was either for my vehicles or a friend's vehicle. Making a down pipe with the car not present is a royal PITA. It is highly prone to mistakes and takes way to long.

I have decided that a PT-200DX, Power I-MIG 205, and a PP-60 are in the future for the garage as far as welding machines go.
Fabricating wise I will be getting a Femi NG-120XL band saw, bench mount drill press, hand bead roller, and some other various things I will need to build headers, turbo manifolds, charge piping, intake manifolds, exhausts, etc. If I need to shear any big pieces of material I will just take that to a customer of mine and do it there. The first thing I am getting will be the 200DX because I have a project to do on my car and it needs to be TIG welded together like yesterday.

For those wondering if I am a fabricator by trade the answer is no. The car/fab stuff is my hobby and I own an IT consulting company that focuses on server/network administration, VoIP telephony, and security.

I look forward to making some new welding friends here in the future.

Well then, a VERY merry Christmas for you! Welcome and I believe you will be surrounded by others in this forum who also want to be in control of their own destiny when it comes to fabrication and general metal-working. Can't wait to see the projects you get into. Cheers!
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Welcome zedron. Self sufficiency is good in all areas of a person's life, metal fabbing just happens to be one of the more enjoyable ones. Hope you enjoy the new equipment.

P.S. Like the avatar, I never thought about doing that to a turtle before!
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

Welcome Zedron. Good pick in products. You covered almost every base there.

I grew up in Tampa. Sure it has changed a lot. Enjoy and ask if you have questions.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I was going to join WW but it seems as though 75% of the people on there have nothing good to say excepting being a smart a$$. Don't even say that you have a welder that isn't a Blue or Red. It just makes it worse.

I was hopefully going to be starting a turbo manifold project soon, but I am contemplating on waiting and doing it on my OWN machine.

If you build it with your own machine, you start justifying the cost right away

Yea, I was a member on WW years ago, went green after my red took a dive and Prax quoted like $2400 to fix it. All Everlast now and not looking back.

Also, even if you have a Red or Blue and new to welding, most of them would still bash you. And they have all been welding for 30 years too.

We're glad to have you here. And a lot of good folks here.
