    Default On its way!

Just ordered my 200DX and it will ship tomorrow. Too bad the wife said when it gets here I am only allowed to open it, check for damage, put on the plug, turn it on, run a few beads, then pack back in box so she can wrap it and throw it under the tree.

LOL! Let me guess ... you were quite a handful when you were a kid ....

Oh, and that's great news, zedron!
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Well let's see, skip the rocks. Buy some other stuff to go along with the DX. Put them in the box and wrap. Now when you open it say, Your the best and how did you know I needed all this for the DX and shop.
Just not fair for a man to wait a month to play with his new toys, just not fair.

I was thinking that but it would be a little odd when I opened it Christmas morning.

I was thinking of buying a new 2 Series CK Flex-Loc torch with the 25' super flex cable along with consumables for it but I think Ill just wait till I get some sit time in with it first.

Guess I'm lucky, the wife doesn't even make me put mine under the tree. She probably doesn't want to hear me complaining about how much wrapping paper it would use.
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

Good news you getting a nice welder! Shame you have to wait till xmas to enjoy it. I am sure you can put something else under the tree to open.

Prioritize, man, prioritize! Swap boxes when no one is looking, or leave the bottom surface unwrapped and swap bricks for welder on Christmas Eve. Seriously, though, congrats on the new machine!

I do it the other way - I buy my Christmas presents and give the box (sealed) to my kids to wrap and give to me on Christmas - but they do not know what is in the box - so the element of surprise goes to the giver, not the receiver.

Works like a charm - and I seem to get exactly what I wanted every time!

    Cheers,

    Mike

I have the flex-loc torch (water cooled) -> its really good, you can always get a good angle, and the super-flex cable is so light and soft that there is virtually no load on the torch while you use it - make it very comfortable.

I also visited the Ck factory last month (was down in Seattle) -> got a tour of the entire factory, its not a large place but just about everything is made on site - raw materials like brass stock, plastics, copper wire in one end, and torches out the other. They use semi-automatic CNC machines for the machining, but the cables and assembly are done by hand, so its true USA built. It looks like a great operation.

    Cheers,

I was thinking of getting a water cooled setup but most of my welding (TIG) is done on thinner material. Material that doesnt require water cooler atleast. I still might get set up with one in the future though for those rare moments where I come across something thicker.

My thinking is to buy one torch up front that works for me, and so I went water cooled because it can take the mid to higher amperages and still remain small. The cable are so light and the torch is like a pencil that I do not notice that its water cooled, and it remains nice and cool.

Good point. I will still have to rethink what torch I want. I just dont feel like buying/making a cooler as well with the new torch though. I could just do the hose trick but I like everything nice and tidy and water hose emptying into teh yard/road/sink isnt tidy if you know what I mean.

I did weld up some 1/4 plates together with 3/8 inch and had to take breaks from the heat and that was at 200amp, a water cooled torch would have been great but I rarely weld anything this large, if your machine is at 250 amp it would be too much to handle at the highest amp. IMHO 1/8 inch aluminum at 150amp or less wont need a water cooled torch. I have yet to test my smaller CK torch 150amp its definitely a lot lighter and the super flex cable is nice.
