Thread: Anyone have problems with the Everlast WP9 Flexhead torch? Mine has broken twice :(

  1. Default

Solder? If that torch is supposed to be a flexneck, I'm not sure solder would hold the two in place. It looks to me that's a design flaw. IMHO, neck and the handle needs to be mechanically fastened if it's to be flexible. I think the overheating (if it actually happened at all) just exposed the flaw. Maybe Everlast should ask the manufacturer how they are supposed to be attached.

With the ck its has a barely noticeable spike when you first push the pedal but is extremely smooth from then on out. Welds are night and day better.

Does anyone know where I can buy the ck flexloc head. I don't want to buy a torch with cable. I just want the torch head, and I'll screw it on to my Everlast hose and cable like I did with this ck130 flex I borrowed

CK sells just the torch, but you might have another "OMG IT'S NIGHT AND DAY" moment if you try their superflex cable, too.

That's for sure, and he'd be good to 150 amps AC or DC @60% duty cycle.

It should have been brazed. Crimped and brazed actually... The head is brazed, I couldn't break the braze joint if I tried. The wound copper wire would fatigue break long before the brazed joint would come apart. The neck should have been brazed to the cup and this never would have happened I can say that for sure. As far as the rubber splitting on the neck I can only attribute that to the wall thickness being so thin on that side and just general fatigue.

After comparing the original to the CK There are some very obvious differences in quality.

    • The CK's connection to the cable is a solid chunk of brass from the flare all the way to the neck. WP9F is a fitting soldered to some copper pipe, soldered to a cup with the neck just slipping inside.
    • The CK's rubber is at least 1.5x as thick as the WP9F

I can't imagine it costing more than $10 to build a torch as good as the CK. That's factoring in labor, materials, marketing, admin costs, etc...

The chinese are building welders on par with their US made counterparts... No reason why they can't make comparable torches.

I agree, CK makes some really good torches, you support the US (given they are entirely manufactured in the US - I visited the Factory in October), and that is all I use - and am very happy. Super flexible hoses and great heads - their collets are outstanding as well. My favorite is the flex-head, that is pretty well all I am using.

The Chinese torches are pretty well crap and build not to last. Just bite the bullet and go for CK!

    cheers,

I am definitely going to buy a ck. I'll put a few hours on this one after the seahawks game.

Mine broke on the second use at the front. Just figured I would get a different setup later.

So I bought a Replacement from weldingcity.com it arrived but it was the standard 9 rigid. they were out of stock on the flex heads. So I went over to weldfabulous.com and was able to order a CK130 Flex torch and a CK FL150 Flex loc 150 Amp torch with a series 2 and series 3 head, and a standard diameter gas saver kit with collet bodies for 1/16, 3/32, 1/8 and the 2 pyrex cups. I didn't bite on the superflex hoses yet since funds are tight this christmas season. I think I got a phenomenal deal at $168 for everything I ordered on weldfabulous.com.
I looked on a few other websites as well. Arc-Zone, Tig Depot and a few others. But only Weld Fabulous would sell the individual torch bodies. When I can afford to, I will pickup a Superflex cable. The short 12' cable I think was $41 on weldfabulous!

    My CK130 compared to stock

Not trying to bad mouth Everlast here. But do yourself a favor and upgrade your components. New torchs/pedals/etc.

I own 3 Everlast machines. Everyone I bought, I bought aftermarket torches, etc. Makes life a lot easier and will let you really enjoy the machines.

Ever buy a car/truck/motorcycle? Leave everything stock? Nope. You always upgrade stuff. Just do it and you will be happy.

SW2X - thanks for the info about weldfabulous now carrying CK. Finally, an online vendor with what looks like a fairly complete line-up of CK TIG torch products, and decent prices to boot!

I plan on writing a review after I receive the items from weld fabulous. I just sold my Roll bar from my car and my front big brake kit so I'm going to buy the superflex cable and a tube bender and notcher so I can build myself a full roll cage and tie it into the strut towers, and a new larger 15" BBK... Christmas has been good this year!
