Machine fired up but the amperage display wasn't working on the front... I was pretty disappointed at this point.. I called customer service at everlast and they asked how the plug was wired. They told me to switch the poles sometimes they have issues with that.. Did that still nothing called them back said they would send me a new unit. I would have to ship mine back and they would send me replacement in about a week,. Started giving them my information and they said they did not have me on their orders. Asked me if i bought it online from another source.. I said yes I bought it on Amazon. They said I would have to deal with Amazon then. They informed me Amazon is a wholesaler for them then if they have Issues they either send a new unit or fix it.. They said i still have same warranty just have to work through them.. So on the phone I go expecting the worst. Talked to Amazon people said it had to have been damaged during shipping and they said ok. Emailed me a return shipping label and Said they were sending me a new unit. I asked when i would get it and they told me tomorrow 12/12/12.. All in all I'm pretty happy with my service... We will see how the new welder is and go from there.... Sorry so long just thought anybody that has been debating this product my want to hear my experience... So far Im happy I hope that the new one comes in and is fine... Im going to use this unit just as a tig machine.... and on 110... I will just be using this on thin steel such as tractor sheet metal and making cover plates. As well as fabbing up some deer feeders. What size tungsten and what kind of filler should I order...
Welcome to the forum. A rattle is never a good sign. Amazon is great to deal with. I'm surprised Everlast tech support didn't have you at least take a peek inside. Shipping bumps can often just knock a plug loose and it's an easy fix. For 110VAC use you will be limited to around 85 amps so a 1/16" tungsten is fine. I would get either 2% thoriated or if you are concerned about the radioactive dust, then get 2% lanthanated. Filler for sheet metal such as you describe will be 1/16" ER70S2 or ER70S6. Some people prefer one over the other for sheet metal. I like S2, as it doesn't flow out as fast, so it works nice in all positions. S6 has a "wetter" puddle and flows more at the same heat. Try both and see what you like better. You might also want some silicon bronze for brazing things. Some little tractor fittings are brazed onto the sheet metal. Of course you will also need an argon bottle and regulator for TIG. I've been really happy with my little 140ST.
