Default Project #4 from CGCINC. Category: Shop tools and improvements

    This is a circle jig.
I needed several circles made out of round bar and don't have the "right" tools to make them so this is what I came up with after a few suggestions from members HERE.
I'm not sure if this will count towards the contest but it IS a custom made shop tool?!?!?!?

I used some left over Oak from a wood project. The center circle is 7" in diam. and the 1/4" dowels are drilled to allow the bent round bar to expand to the diameter I need and hold it in place to weld. I drilled holes in the bottom of the base to allow me to mount it to my welding table for bending. I added a piece of 3/4" square tubing in the center 7" circle to insert a 90* bend of the rod to hold it in place while bending. I didn't want to just drill a hole because I might be using this more than a few times and I want it to last.
This thing works surprisingly well and the round bar bends very easy.

Looks good....put a finish on the top of it and bring it inside. Call it early American ring forming equipment as used by our founding fathers...maybe hit it with a chain or something to make it look worn :-)

Nothing says, "I love you dear" like a replica early American ring forming equipment.

Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

Great job on that ... I've never thought about making one from wood before ... that's what I like about the people on this forum ... ingenuity abounds.

Like the saying goes... "Necessity is the mother of invention". Or like I say... "I'm broke, no joke, so time to pull somethin out of smoke!"

Nice one ... I'll have to remember that line because that's usually my financial state.
