Making the press benders does require knowing some things such as making sure you have the bender guided so that you don't put any side load on the press bar causing it to bend instead of the intended material.

You're looking for sources of chains? I have a boatload of old bicycle chains, if you were interested in those. I kept them around because I heard of somewhere that would make picture frames and stuff out of them, but I never got around to collecting them all into one box and figuring out where to send them. Or were you looking for something bigger, like automotive timing/sync chains?

Thanks I do have a good source for bicycle chains but I have more use for ansi 40,50 &60 as well as multi link like timing and primary drive chains. I do ok I seldom have to buy chains unless I have a call for something special where there is a load requirement and I need new chain.

I've decided to piece together my own press break … it won’t be as slick as the one in the kit that Swagoffroad.com puts out but I think it will cost a heck of a lot less … I figure it will take about $15 to $20 worth of steel. Gas, electricity and rod ( or wire) to complete.
BTW I shortened the video of the “Winky dinky metal bender” and replaced the old one on youtube with it. It really wasn’t intended to be a tutorial … just another chance to look at sparks and plug my music hehehe … yes, I realize my sound is too tame for the younger folks but … never say die(yes, I know tame rhymes with lame ... let's not go there ok?) … lmao http://youtu.be/1bR-2HyAqDo

I bit the bullet and got one of the Swag press brake kits w/o the back stop ... was a breeze to build ... of course I had to make a video yes I used mig ... I've reserving my tig set up for aluminum, SS and thin sheet metal ... I will start using it for more DCEN on mild steel again soon. http://youtu.be/ocZwDXVfs4s

I just bought the 20 ton HD with no backstop, sould be here this week.

You'll like it ... just remember to weld the bottom die in steps to avoid warping and make sure you square the guide posts ... it only took me around 35 to 40 minutes to put mine together ... works great too!

Actually I thought about it and since I made these bar sets during the contest it doesn't make any sense not to include them as entries SO I'm going to enter both sets of bars that I made as ... PROJECT # 3 Home and Shop Security here are some pictures of the other bar sets that I made ... if I can do it this way without starting a thread ... I'll go back and look at the rules again but for now ... I couldn't find mention if each project needed to have it's own thread or not ... I wish there was a way to edit threads ... aagghh this computer stuff makes me crazy sometimes ... I'm so confused lmao.
