250EX knob alignment

New welder looks good. I have found one knob that doesn't line up with the tick marks when all the way counterclockwise. Do these knobs [post flow] just push on? Don't want to break anything trying to pry it off. Didn't see a set screw but with 53 year old peepers that doesn't mean much.

The knob on my PowerArc 140ST wasn't lined up when it came out of the box. I just turned it until the motion stopped (when the tick mark on the knob was pointing off in the weeds), and then with a little more force kept turning the knob until the tick mark pointed the right way. I think it's just a press fit plastic knob onto a steel shaft. Seems to be fine for me now - no slippage. Your mileage may vary, though.

Actually it's an interesting knob, something like a collet design. If you pop off the colored plastic center plug, there is a screw that you can loosen to release the knob on the shaft, and rotate it to a new position and tighten it up. The pot shaft is smooth round with no splines or flat side.

i took off the plastic covers and turned the shaft with pliers counterclockwise untill it stopped and put the knobs at the zero mark and tightened them up

Yes, this is the best way to fix the alignment issue. Don't force the knobs, because you can twist the entire POT if you do, which can lead to twisting up wires inside the machine. One of my POTs was actually quite loose. I had to pull the knob off and tighten up the nut on the pot to make her firm. I tweaked the alignment on 4 knobs total. One of them was way off, the other 3 were close but while i was at it i got them dead nuts.
