welding ?

i have a question about welding some 1/4 inch plate to 3/8 inch thick wall pipe would i be better to use stick or tig ?
i will have a PowerUltra 205
this will be on a smoker so it dont have to be strong just look nice and hold air/smoke

Tig will give you a pretty weld,,, but 7014 rod looks good too,,,It's a smoker not rolex,,,so how nice do it have to look,,throw some heat resistent paint on it and who will be looking at the welds

Clean the plate and pipe and Tig it, it will look better and Tig penetrates very well 1/4 to 3/8 full power ahead.
