So Friday I spoke to my boss about getting a new welder so I can weld stands, etc... FASTER... I've been TIGing them, which is ultra slow. Boss said he'd front me the cash to buy one and I'd owe him 5 stands to pay it off. SWEET! So I'm going to purchase one within the next week or so. I would really love to have a lighter MIG welder since I've been hauling my 85lb 225LX Power TIG onto the roof to weld things on site..
Primary considerations are
- 120/240v operation (not absolutely necessary but would be nice)
- ability to use flux core wire for those jobs where hauling a bottle is just a PITA!
- Light
- Capable of most anything
- would love a fancy digital
The only MIG welder I've ever owned was a Hobart handler 120 and it was crap. I couldn't even weld standard exhaust pipe worth a #### with it. I don't know if it was because it was broken or whether it was just that it was 120v and didn't have enough amperage..
So what would be your choice considering I may need to haul it up onto a roof with some flux core wire, yet I need it to be a fully capable welder.
