Thread: having some problems with my PM205

  1. Default having some problems with my PM205

For the most part I am happy with my machine, but I am having a couple of issues. For one, the foot pedal control does not work as it is supposed to. The only way to get any kind of control is to use the machine it the 4T mode, and set the amperage on the panel. When I try to use 2T and the foot control, it acts very much like an abrupt on-off switch, and adjusting the dial on the foot control to change amperage seems to have little to no effect. I am not sure if the problem is in the foot control or the machine, as far as amperage adjustment goes, but it does not work like it is supposed to. Overall the foot pedal is a POS, since the rack gear slides off the pinion gear on the rheostat constantly. I am going to have to modify it to work correctly, which kind of sucks, since it is brand new.

My regulator is also leaking on the high pressure side, which I noticed after quickly going through a bottle of argon.

Aside from these two things I am happy with the machine, I just wish the thing worked like it is supposed to.

Sounds like the rack and pinion on your foot pedal is off track. Usualy an easy fix, there are some other posts on this forum about that, I think on the Tig forum, or give Mike a call, he's problaby watching NASCAR right now anyway. I sure he'd be happy to help.

Your message said give a call in the evening. So I thought you preferred a call at night. I just re-read it. You sent it last night. It was 9PM
Sunday my time when you sent it, I was probably asleep.

Will call you in 10-20 minutes.

Thanks Mike, for the help. I took the case off and discovered I had a plug behind the panel disconnected, the machine is working as it should.

I tested the regulator with soapy water, it is leaking where we discussed, on the threaded fitting going into the regulator body itself. I will give a call to sales tomorrow to get that taken care of.

    Thanks again!

I have a friend with a pan break going to make and see if i can make a few guide and rheostat end shaft supports that just builts under the hole allready in the pedal unit so there is no drilling . The pedal assy has good brand switchs and is made good but everything new has little up dates to make it better. I love how well the 250 ex i got welds makes such nice welds and great when i have to weld oxidized pontoon boats . make my econo tig look like crap .lol just remeber all the best stuff comes from japan and china , think of that when your watching Nascar on your china made big screen tv .

If you go to ace hardware they have some cool round nylon bushings that work great to keep the shaft straight while pushing down on the pedal there cheap like 20 cent each . I made a bracket out of a piece of sheet metal also to give the long shaft on the rheostat some support i used a small nylon bushing so the shaft wasnt metal to metal . If i can figure out how to do pictures on the site i can post a picture

I talked to Mike for quite a bit Friday, very helpful guy. Anyways, I am still having issues with my welder, I know my foot pedal is not working as it should be, it reads extremely erratic on the multimeter. I haven't been able to reach someone in tech support today, if you guys could give me a call anytime today at 541 404 3776 that would be great, thanks!
