Thread: PP 256 S75 Plasma torch red wire connection

  1. Question PP 256 S75 Plasma torch red wire connection

I finally have my new 2013 PP256 setup in the shop. The 2013 downloaded PP256 manual doesn't cover where to connect the red wire off the S75 plasma cutter torch cable. My guess would be to the pilot arc? Also the manual doesn't have the recommend amp settings for metal thickness when cutting.

Yes, there should be one wire from the torch lead that connects to the pilot arc post at the fron of your machine. Welcome to the forum.

A google search found this.. A few typos, but a good start. Note, your speed will dictate everything, so there is no real chart for plasma cutting. Ray and I talked way back and laughed, as we both normally leave it at 50 amps, go up if needed, rare to go down. But like the welding amps, all depends on the user.

Hey thanks for the info. Got the first test cuts done using a 10 gauge aluminum sheet. Amps set at 20. Cuts nice. A couple of more questions:

    1. Other plasma torches I've used do not have the white ring or metal guide on the tip. Can I remove these and put the tip directly against a separate guide bar?

    2. Do all the green knobs still function in the cut mode? So I should set the preflow to zero.

    Good question.

You can remove the wire ring. Do not remove the heat shield.

Have you read the manual? It goes over the settings for plasma on page 13 and other places it repeats I believe.
Turn off everything but the post flow.

I have indeed read the manual several times. Referring to page 13 it does not specifically describe what to set the preflow or postflow to nor is it repeated elsewhere. Perhaps it may be obvious to some but not to me. I would suggest that maybe on the next manual revision you clearly state on page 13 that you set all the torch controls (green knobs) to zero except for postflow. Judging by previous blogs on plasma problems changing the manual may save others from asking the same dumb questions.

Also add the red wire off the S75 torch to the Pilot Arc Post which is missing in the diagram.

This manual is a great improvement over the Chinese edition but a few more improvements would go a long to reducing your constant need to assist customers with machine setup and adjustments.

Preflow to 0, Post flow to 10 or more for long cuts.
