Thread: Giving the 200DX a workout tonight.

Default Giving the 200DX a workout tonight.

I'm welding a charge cooler for my turbo bike.

Note, when welding at 150 amps on an aircooled torch for a while, don't inadvertently bump the gas lens cup into a mounting tab. Kind of made it crack.
Had to finally replace cup after two years of use.

Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

150 amps seems like alot. How thick is the aluminum ?

I am welding the end tanks onto the core. The core is a bit difficult to heat up and it is relatively massive on the edges. ~ .375" square or so on each edge.

It is realistically closer to 120-130 amps after the weld gets going, but it is higher in the beginning.

    It's basically one of these:

The welds are between the corners and formed / welded end caps made from .100-.125" thick sheetmetal.
