I was all set to buy a new Everlast 200DX TIG and a PowerPlasma 50, when I ran across a deal on a 6 month old PowerPro 256. The plasma didn't work right when I showed up to test it and buy it, it appeared to have a melted swirl ring, but it turned out the whole torch head was damaged, Customer Service could only offer me a brand new torch, ($289), or wait on a price on just a torch head. I might still be waiting if I hadn't found one myself, and apparently it was cheaper than Everlast would have had to pay for one. I'm not too upset about that, (previous owner probably caused that problem, so I ate it). But it STILL doesn't work....
I welded about 15 minutes with the TIG, and the high frequency board went out. Ray tells me the warranty doesn't transfer, so I just have to buy the board, or convince Alex to transfer the warranty. Waiting for a call back from him now....
I own a MAC 225 amp MIG welder, (made by Silver Beauty AFAIK), and it's about 28 years old, I've only had problem with it twice in all that time. And I've been using a Miller 251 owned by my old boss for a few years as well, built several race cars with it, no problems AT ALL. I just hope this isn't a sign of things to come.....

We don't transfer the warranty unless the original owner contacts us and makes special arrangements before the sale. (doesn't happen every time we get a request ). Miller and Lincoln are the same way according to there terms and conditions.

As a happy customer, I can say these guys are great, and solid. Can't really base a decision on a product's quality on a used item with unknown history... if the owner screwed something up enough to melt a torch head, what else might he have messed up on that or another 'attempt'

And regarding durability and the previous owner... I've got a neighbor that could break a steel handled framing hammer trying to hang a picture.

I'm always a little leery about "deals" on used electrical equipment that are less than a year old unless I know the person has a ton of cash and is always trying out new toys. I always try to treat my tools well. Can't say that about a lot of people I know and have run across.

Well, this kid had plenty of money for sure, he tore apart a perfectly good Honda S2000 to make it all electric, bought the welder to build the battery boxes and trays, motor mounting system, etc. He didn't even know how to weld, he had friends do it all. Got my H/F board ordered today, I sure hope it all works well after this. I wonder what the motivation was for converting the s2000. Going electric would have given it a lot more torque off the line but it would have ruined just about everything else about the car except for saving gas ... but I suspect not. Who buys a s2000 to convert to electric to save gas?

If you gas welded in the past, TIG does come a lot easier. Once you are running, you will like the machine.

I always check in before selling a used machine to upgrade or call if I am a buyer on something like that. Normally need to know the age product, status far as operating, what was it used for, skill set of the person if possible (just talking on the phone can tell you a lot ).

Haven't see a Vega, other occasionally on Pass tTme (TV show), in quite some time. Post up pictures if you get time.

And you just had to go slap a 69 camaro around. What was the time on the run? CI and HP? Funny that is massive and powerful, but looks easier to work on than a new car today.

That was about a 7.0 pass, it's a 355, HP probably around 425, looking to add 200~250 with the twin turbos. Never been to PBIR, but I've been to Moroso about 20 years ago.

Glad to hear the HF board got things going. Take apart the pedal. It might have slipped the drive to the pot. A few people have mentioned this before. You can search the forums for various home remedies. It's a pretty easy fix.

That is great news! Your pedal probably skipped a few cogs like Mr Bozo said. Sounds like you are almost home.

Check pins 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 on the pedal (one should swing 0-47K+ ohms the other 47K+ to 0 ohms).fine.

Wiring is 1-2 on/off switch, 3-4-5 pot (4 being common), shorted 6 and 7 to ID the foot pedal is being used (tells it to look at 3-4-5).

You can open the pedal, zero the pot, put the rack on the cog, then check 3-4-5, that will let you know if the skip was the case.

If you had no amps with no HF, maybe you might have pushed a little hard or faster on the pedal and they skipped. Sort of like shaking those electronic video games . They have skipped in shipping as well.

Let us know if that fixed it, or call Oleg for a swap.

Can't wait to see Chevy Vega in the 5's or 6's video.

That car is awesome! I love racing. I used to race Y and shifter Kart in college. Nothing like having your butt 2" off the ground at 80 MPH and having 3 G's in a turn. And a 0-60 in 3 to 5 secs.
