Thread: Hello from Boston!

  1. Default Hello from Boston!

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum here. I am a recent graduate with a Associate of Applied Science Degree in Welding Technology and moved back to my hometown in MA. I have been on the look out for jobs in the area but haven't had much luck yet. I have come to realize a degree in this field doesn't mean much, if anything. It's all about experience... In that case, I have decided to outfit my garage into a Weld shop and get my own equipment. More for practice and keeping my skills up while on the job hunt. I have shopped around and decided that on my budget and what I am looking for, an Everlast welder seems to be the right choice.

I am currently deciding between the 2013 PowerTig 250ex or the PowerPro 256. I got some questions about my decision but I'll post that in a thread more suited for it.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas and hopefully I can reciprocate.

    WickedPissah! LOL!
Welcome aboard. There's a great bunch hanging around here.
You may need to move up or down the coast a little to find work.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I am beginning to realize that I may have to travel a bit or even move again if necessary. But anything to get my career going, I am willing to give it a shot.

I think that you will likely have to move. Just going over the newspaper my father in law brought when he came last weekend, and the classifieds are full of welding jobs in Mobile Al. 25.00/hr for some. I've seen them pay over 30.00 for others. Mostly in ship yards.

My pick would be the 2013 250 EX for almost double the duty cycle and if you need a plasma cutter then get a PP50 or 60 when you can.
You can also purchase plug and play CK torches and SSC foot pedals through Everlast if you'd like to upgrade.
