MOSFET Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor

IGBT technology has largely replaced that design. More reliable and rugged.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

IGBT has been around for a LONG time, nothing new. MOSFET is a good transistor (depending on the designer), but IGBT has less gate latch-up issues, also IGBT perform well at lower frequency, lending them to welders in current transfer/loss.
