  1. Default Hello, new here. From South Texas

What's up people. I'm a south texas welding student going on his last semester to receive his certificate, I'm eventually wanting to get my associates, but I'm out of fund, with already having a degree in chemical and environmental technology. LOL

Anyway, got my eye on an Everlast welder, I just need to peg it down to which one! LOL I love GTAW and found my self really enjoying aluminum and Stainless, but I am am MUCH better at SMAW since the school really pushes it!

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions soon!

Welcome! All questions welcome, ask away.

Just curious- what town are you in? I've got a lot of relatives down around Corpus.

    I'm from Harlingen. :-)

I'm looking for a stick/tig machine that has both torches already included, with HF start and foot peddle controls (foot peddle also included), the SMAW needs to have arc force control and hot start, Must also be able to run 6010 1/8th rods.... Any suggestions?

Even further south than my Raymondville cousins.

Better to let the Technical moderators answer the machine/capabilities question- I'd hate to steer you wrong. I went through the EverlastGenerators.com product site and found stick/TIG machines with arc force so they do exist- the moderators will have better knowledge of the inventory.

First of All, you need to determine if you need AC for Aluminum or Magnesium Welding, then how thick is the material you will be routinely welding with.

The MTS 200 and 250 are cool multifunction MIG/DC TIG/and STICK, and for MIG have Post Flow and a Pedal (absolute Must). You can do Steel SS and Aluminum MIG (Argon for Aluminum, Trimix for Stainless), with a Spoolgun for Aluminum.

If you need AC for Aluminum TIG, you will need to get a separate MIG and TIG machine, as there are no combo units yet that offer this in one package.

Up to 1/4", you can use a 200amp or 185amp, for 1/2" thick Materials, you will want a 250amp unit (Also will need a water cooler and torch for over 200amps TIG.

Also, depending on Duty cycle requirements. If you are mostly learning/hobby, you can get by with a lesser duty cycle (40% or less).

Lastly, if you need/want a plasma cutter, and duty cycle needs are low, you can save a lot with a combo TIG STICK, that incorporates a Plasma Cutter, although if money is available, most prefer separate units.

Aluminum really sucks (heat) so don't scrimp on power, unless you are keeping it to thin materials (< 1/8in).

HF 90Amp FluxCore (Don't laugh, it is what got me started)
    Lotos LT5000D Plasma
    HF 4x6 Horizontal Bandsaw
    Rikon 18" Bandsaw w/VFD
    Delta 14" Drill Press

Good info! I was looking at the TIG/stick/plasma combo but I don't really like plasma cutters, and would rather buy my a torch.

So I was looking at the Power I-Tig 200, but the only thing that is holding me back is it says it can't run 6010. I'm doing a lot of pipe welding at school, and it would be nice to come home and continue. The pipe root pass is done with a 6010 1/8 at 70-80 amps, Hot pass and fill with 7018 3/32 at about 85-90 and finally cap it with 7018 3/32 at 125 amps.

so the stick portion is what I "need" the Tig part is what I want, I want to practice walking the cup, and pipe welding with it. I found stainless steal to be fun to weld, and get a sense of satisfaction when I make the joints with no sugaring, however we only did 2 weeks in school, and I want to continue and improve on this, as Tig is what I would like to make my career on someday. I do believe that SMAW is what I will have to do to make the money I want for a few years, but Ultimately I would like to be a tig welder....
