Hi forum people, my name is Charlie. Looking to get a 250ex/300cooler combo. I am planning on doing some 4130 tubing and 6061 aluminum for some custom vehicle work. Should be nice, see ya around.

Welcome the4th. That is a great combo. I have had two of the 250EX units for over 3 years. I have our digital unit as well, but always seem to go to the 250EX. The power is great, plenty of easy to see knobs. Good choice like Geezer said.

Good Choice, I have the pp256, very similar to the 250 with less duty cycle. Been looking at building a water cooler, but gave up, and will just order the 300. Can't beat it for the price.

I'm in SLC and own a PP256 and 300 cooler. I'd offer to have you over and give them a test drive, but they're still in the box waiting for me to run a 220v line. Maybe this holiday weekend...

Hey thanks allot you guys. Just barely pulled the trigger on all the goodies. 250ex/300cooler/cart/upgraded regulator and flex lines. They said it should be around 3or4 weeks from now. I will take the foot pedal with a grain of salt for now. Knowing full well that I will upgrade it soon. The upgraded package has flex lines and a better regulator, the lines are only 15 feet long, so this will be upgraded soon too. I will be getting a 250amp ck flexloc with 25' flex lines asap. But a fixed torch on 15' lines is fine for now.

Im tired of putting the motorcycles away for more than half a year because of our Utah winters so Im working on a rig for winter. Its pretty ambitious with allot going on and I have a long way to go. The only welding done so far is the machine that I am using to make the 6061 rims for the "Nemesis" Hey if you can make the rims the dash wont be a problem right?

Teaser pics: Like I said I have a long way to go.. Its a 3 piece wheel, this is the spoke section with the outside bead. This bead has bead lock from the inside when the next ring squeezes together.







This is the backside of it. I am working on the wooden mock up brake disk spacer/adapter. This is a complex piece. It mounts to the back of the lug face and gets around the hub bearing mounts with that clover shape then excepts the bolts from the front. It has to clear the bearing mounts so the wheel can turn, space the disk away from the backside of the rim spokes to make room for the caliper, of course mount the disk, and keep the disk hardware clear of the upright/steering knuckle. Not allot of room to accomplish all of this. The effort has been worth it though as now I wont have remove any brake parts to remove the wheel. It all stays on and is mounted behind the hub flange (lug area) Of course the final part wont be plywood it will be 6061 alum.





There are allot of very talented people on the interwebs with incredible skills and I have a long way to go but this is the (without a doubt) NICEST thing that has come out of my basement ever. There are engineers and all kinds of professional people that Im sure will find lots of faults with this design/idea/execution but I have to do what Im capable of doing. I dont have huge budgets with 500,000$ worth of software to work with YET. Im just getting started and like I said I have a long way to go. I designed that piece cad/cam'ed it then cut it on a machine that I built (with help from the interwebs ) I am all self taught and funded right now. I guess what Im saying is: Just keep in mind this is very early on, it still has machine marks on it and its way over built. The last thing I wanted to do was spend lots of time/money on four RIMs only to risk safety and have them weak/bend/break. I will live with the fact that it may be overbuilt rather than trimmed completely down for performance in the interest of safety. I mean its a rim for hells sake. NOBODY makes rims in their basement. (your thinking ... "There is a reason no one does" . maybe..?) Well nobody I know anyway.

Although there is no welding on this piece there was just no way I was going to ruin parts like this with some half azz method of welding aluminum. Watching pete pound up and weld that aluminum gas tank with a bic lighter and some strips of material and flux was truly inspiring, but...I dont see me doing that. (ok it wasnt a bic lighter but still ...)

My project list is long, and grows longer by the day it seems. Most of what I'm doing right now is home improvement type stuff - welding kitchen cabinets might be my first real project (I don't really have any welding experience).

I have a lathe that is CNC-retrofitted but needs new motors/controls and a knee mill I'm rebuilding and want to CNC as well. I also have a 40W laser cutter that is 90% done. Looks like you are into bikes - I have a CB750 I want to tear down and rebuild, and I have a race engine I need to drop into my VW.

I enjoy CNC and my real passion is in machine design. I actually teach SolidWorks and CAMWorks. What type of CNC machine did you build?

Yea the cnc world is just fascinating. I truly love it. I would say Ill help retro fit those units but it sounds like you are covered, I will hold the flashlight and hand you the screwdrivers so I can learn a few things .

Gecko drives 203v
7.2/1 steppers on rack and pinion.
4'x8'x10"z all steel router table.
Welded in place and its a beast. (well for me anyway) Im sure a knee mill is no pansy either.
Its time to get the stepper gearbox's out of the picture. They served their purpose and Ill keep them for a plasma table or something. So I am making changes to my table in between cut jobs. I could go on and on ... Ill spare the internet of one more rambling guy online, but I do think we need to talk more. There is no question that you could help me in allot of ways the only question is: How can I help you?

Are these machines of yours in your classroom/shop? What time should I be there?
