    Default S-6 Mig wires differ

I was welding and ran out of wire got a roll of Lincoln S-6 Mig wire .035 from Princess Auto put it in spool gun and it welds different then the S-6 Unibraze wire it will not spray weld. The Lincoln wire dose not flow as nice as the Unibraze. The setting are the same but it sure dose not weld as nice more splatter then ever. Then tried a old roll of Princess Auto S-6 wire and it is different again better then Lincoln's wire but not as good as Unibraze S-6.

I found the same thing. I had lincoln s6 wire then when I ran out I got a roll of Radnor. The Radnor is smoother than the lincoln and I also could not get the lincoln wire to go into spray transfer either. I have not tried the Radnor in spray transfer yet and it might be a while before I do. I had a job at a saw mill and used up a 44 lb spool on one job and am closing up my business until next May. So far I like the Radnor better tban the lincoln wire. A wire lubricator helps a lot if you run a lot of wire.

Use either National standard or ESAB 12.50 OK Aristorod to spray with...nothing comes close. I have used the cheaper Techniweld though with good success, but it's not as smooth.

    Mark,

Where did you pickup the ESAB or Techiweld? Was it local, like Airgas?

I don't think the ESAB wire I mentioned is available in anything less than 40 lb rolls. Techniweld is. ESAB is available through air gas. Techniweld, which is much cheaper is available through local distributors as well, though not sure about air gas.

I will check with the locals here for the Uniweld. I try to avoid Airgas down here.

Anyone should be able to get the ESAB wire. National should be as well. I have bought the ESAB wire at airgas and at another more regional distributor here in my small town always keep a few rolls in stock. There's a business here that won't use anything else.

My lws wanted $140 for a 40lb roll of ESAB 12.50 OK Aristorod. I purchased a roll from ebay for less but it was still a high price. I just had to try it.

Your right they don't but I made a unit to hold the small reels it is a drive from a old Hobart Mig welder with adjustable speed on it. I see the wires is available at Linde Canada Limited they are ESAB Dealer they show the ESAB OK Aristorod 12.50 ER70S-6 being Blue color.

ESAB CANADA site show it blue, see link. I look on three sites and they all use the same picture so it is hard to tell. I will find out when it is in my hands.

The wire is bluish in the lighting because it is steel. It's uncoated, meaning it is not clad with copper, but it does have a light wax like coating. It's not wax, and it feeds great, but it won't readily rust...and over time it'll leave a slight powdery, waxy residue under the drive rolls...harmless, but whatever it is, protects things really well.

Someone thinks they're going to get $100 for this mess on ebay... I don't think so. Click image for larger version.
