The new IMIG is here! and I've got some questions.

First off, I'd like to say thanks for the fast shipping, the welder got here before the tracking number did! Kudos to Reddaway, they were just as fast as either of the parcel services.

Couple of disappointments, first, the regulator was missing. Second, nothing happened when I pulled the trigger. After a bit of troubleshooting, it seems that the pins in the euro connector are not making contact. Not sure why the spool gun connector (on the left in the pic) makes contact, but the other one doesn't. Hopefully I'll get some time to figure it out this afternoon.


Is there an updated manual available that I missed? The one on the manuals page is really outdated (and doesn't cover pulse) and I gave up trying to understand the Chinglish one in the crate after about 3 sentences. The most immediate question though, is how do I set the wire speed? Or did this thing go synergic when I wasn't paying attention?

Amps = wire speed. I believe it reads wire speed when idle and actual amps when welding. Which spool gun did you get ? A pic of the whole spoolgun setup would be nice.

Tighten your liner nut down or check to see if the liner is too long. Looks like it is sticking up too high.

I do remember the pics of the old unit with the dial labeled Wire Speed/Stick Amps. Not sure why it is labled straight up as MIG amps with the correction factor for stick amps off to the side now. The range at idle is 55(actually speed, 0 IPM) to 286 (actual speed not yet tested). Maybe after some futzing around I'll get it all figured out.

I went with the SM200. Seems pretty well built and it was plug and play. Sweet! Only downside is that the speed is not controlled at the gun. Mark, I think you mentioned a while back that could be fixed with some rewiring, might you happen to remember where that info is?


Thanks Mark, I'll check that in the AM. I tweaked the pins in a bit and got it working, but doing it that way didn't seem right to me.

Even after laying just a couple bead-like formations, I can tell already I'm gonna like MIG and this machine in particular. Wish I didn't have to wait till Thursday to get supplies and get going with it. Guess that does give me more time to watch Jody's MIG collection though.

I was pleasantly surprised that it is 25', 25% longer than the advertised length, cool! I don't care much for the denim cover though, it gets impregnated with dust & dirt in no time.

The liner was a bit long, trimming improved the situation, but it is still a bit finicky, not 100%.

Is the neck and nozzle energized on yours when you weld ? You could check with a multi meter without shorting it.

Is yours? I just checked for continuity and there is none between the tip and nozzle. I'm also pretty sure I drug it when testing, and nothing scary happened.

Just discovered another plus, they both use the same consumables. Now I wonder if the necks are interchangeable too.

The mig torch that came with my 250 had the nozzle energized so it would burn away or stick if it touched in a corner.
I'm not complaining at all, just curious about the spool gun after kempy said his neck and nozzle were always hot on the same model spool gun. I'm gonna buy one soon.

Makes me think he might have exceeded the duty (200A@35%) and melted through the internal insulation. It might explain some of the problems he has been having and why it was fine when he first got it.
Since it has been said that this is basically the same gun as the Miller Spoolmate 200, that is further rated at 160A@60%. I can see how it might be easy to exceed that.
It might be time to produce a 300A spoolgun for some of the more powerful welders, like Lincoln does.

It could be something as simple as a little chunk of clipped wire that fell into the neck as well. Either way, a disassemble and inspect should reveal what is up.
