Thread: Cart For My PowerPlasma 50 & Air Compressor

  1. #1

Default Cart For My PowerPlasma 50 & Air Compressor

I wanted to build a cart for my plasma cutter that would do a few things. #1. Have a small foot print. #2. Wouldn't cost my any additional money. That means the only materials I could use had to be already available in my shop. #3. It also had to hold my portable air compressor that I use to supply it with air.

So here is how it turned out. If I could do it again I'd have used 1" square on the bottom shelf. Other than that I'm really happy with how it turned out. It still needs to be painted and a few small things buttoned up on it but that will come later. The only major things I plan to add to it will be a custom air cooler/moisture trap that will mount to the back between the tubes. This will help get rid of the 100' of hose I use now.

For those interested in watching the videos that I shot during this build here is the link. Word of caution. I talk to much. If you don't like it and would like to see more work & less talk I'm willing to take donations to get a good camera and the upgrades I need on my computer to run video editing software properly lol. If you're not going to donate I don't want to hear it lol.

Nice cart! That's a great idea about putting your compressor and plasma cutter on a cart.

Thank you and yeah It helps make it portable. I will at some point secure both of them to the cart so if I need to do anything on location I can easily put this in my trailer and go. It also lets me easily wheel around that compressor so I don't have to carry it when I need it for something outside my shop.

You mention more than once how quiet the compressor is. Do you have any video with it actually running?
Not quite on topic, but I liked your video on the 210EXT. Seeing close ups of some of the details was nice. I wish you would have had the camera on when you had the covers off. Easier than trying to describe everything after the fact. It seems like the new factory that is making the 210EXT is quite a step up from the previous models for sure. It seems like it is also a slightly different color, is that the case?

Sure do. Here is a link to the video. At about the 2 min mark I turn it on. It's the 2nd video on the page.

I just checked the price on Amazon and it's on sale right now for quite a bit less than what I paid for it. If you're thinking about buying one jump on it before the price goes back up.

And thanks for the feed back on the 210 EXT video. I was having issues with my camera and recording the videos. I was going to do an unboxing video too and it just didn't work out lol. That's what happens when you shoot these videos with your cell phone. Oh and by the way the packing material has gone WAY up in quality. That box they shipped it in was top notch. I was very impress with that. The box was 1/2 thick cardboard with reinforced corners that made them even thicker. It even had an actual lid on the box. It even has plastic handles on the box. Again Very Impressed with that. And yes the color is a little different. It's a deeper green and in my opinion looks better. And yes like I said in that video this is a big step up from my other two machines cosmetically.

For those that haven't seen that video that Rambozo is talking about here is the link.

Nice set up. You do need to add a dryer to that compressor or you will be eating through a lot of consumables.

I use a Franzinator along with a Motorguard filter and I have not had to replace my consumables on my PowerPlasma 50 since using them. Well worth the effort to keep the air as dry as possible.

Thank you and yes I know. Like I said I do have two filters on my air lines right now. I also said lol I will be building something custom on the back of the cart so everything will be self contained. That's the goal

BTW that compressor runs quite a bit cooler than most. The motors spin at a lower rpm than most on the market so it doesn't build up as much heat. Right now my temporary setup has 100 feet of line and two filters. It's doing a good job with this compressor. I will be building something better though.

Like others have said, a small compressor on the cart is a nice touch. I have a compressor about that size. I might see if it can keep up with the plasma cutter.
