Thread: PowerTig 200DX Stuck in AC - help!

  1. Default PowerTig 200DX Stuck in AC - help!

Just got my PowerTig 200DX but it's stuck in AC mode. I already verified that the switch works correctly and all wires seem to be connected. However, I cannot get the unit to weld in DC mode. Switch the AC/DC switch has absolutely no effect.

    Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. A picture of the entire front of the machine as is, of at least 800x600 resolution may help.

    Welcome, Silver Bullet-

Just for curiosity, what symptoms lead you to believe the machine is stuck in AC mode? As Zoama says, a photo of your setup along with some description of what you're seeing would be helpful.

Congrats on the new machine, I'm sure whatever is happening will be resolved.

The AC/DC switch does not change the way the machine welds. In other words, it is stuck in AC mode. It welds as you would weld aluminum with the adjustable frequency. Makes the buzzing sound while welding steel. Also, as the switch is currently set in DC mode, the AC frequency and balance controls DO alter the arc, even though the machine is set in DC mode. In other words, when adjusting the frequency while set in DC mode, the frequency changes accordingly. There should be no frequency adjustment in DC mode as DC is direct current. Not sure why it's stuck in this mode. I've played with all the controls to no avail. Thanks for the help. I'll post a pic in a minute.

Well, just got the replacement welder and all is well. Not sure what was wrong with the other machine but this one works well. Here's to my attempts to lay some beads!

Glad to here you are back up and running. Not how we missed this thread. Sounded like a sorted AC/DC switch or wire off.

FYI: The bead pictures did not upload.
