Thread: Power arc 200 or 250

  1. Default Power arc 200 or 250

Hi all new to the forum, I have a question. I want to do some mobile work on the side and was looking at the power arc 200 or 250. I want to run it off a generator for mobile use. What type and size generator would you guy's think I need and if you think it could be done? Thank you Bill

Don't think there is such a thing as a Power Arc 250.

Lots of information is on this site and others about the type of generator needed. Pretty soon an Everlast rep will be here to let you know.

If you check out posts here by SeanMurphy, he has done a lot of work with a PowerArc 200 and a NorthernTool Powerhorse 7000 generator.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

The generator has to be clean power. No ordinary one will do. For the PA 300, you will need to be able to put out 60 amps...Or have 3 phase output...which will lower the requirement of course. Some TA predators had 3 phase output that would work it, but then, of course, you already have a stick welder if you have one of those. lol. The PA 200 is less demanding though and can be used already with a 40 amp output. Keep in mind that watts is Volts X amps. So whatever your voltage is on input and your max amp requirement is, that is the wattage you need to buy (for peak).

I used a Power Arc 200 with a Northern Tool Power Horse 7000 for over two years and never had a single issue. Welds as good as my Lincoln Eagle, and it's a great economical way to a mobile welding business.

Thanks Sean for your help. You would know if you have been doing it with a gen set for over 2 yrs. I am here in Calif. and for me to get a 7k-8k gen set it has to be carb appov.

Hey Sean how do you run your powerarc 200 away from your setup? with extension cord or long leads. Thanks Bill

I have purchased my welding cables in 25' sections as I can afford them. I use the twist style connectors on my leads, and I add the 25' sections as I need them.

The only reason I upgraded to an engine drive is the generated power. I felt that I needed 9,000 running 10,000 max power. Get the largest generator you can afford. I chose the Powerhorse because at the time I lived close to a Northern Tool. Northern Tool also allows you to purchase an additional 2 year extended warranty (it comes with a 2 year warranty), and I also purchased the accidental damage insurance from Northern Tool. I figured since I was using it for welding that I would run it hard and have some problems. I never had an issue!

Those long leads must have cost you a small fortune. What gauge wire did you have to use?

If you weld for a living, those are a lifeline, and expense of copper is little compared to the lost business of not having something long enough.

True enough. Cost of doing business. Smart being able to extend them if required. I've been thinking about doing it with my leads but nothing like Sean. Just going from 10 feet to 20 feet.
