Thread: Gear rack for trafimet machine torch

  1. Default Gear rack for trafimet machine torch

Hi everyone, when I bought my everlast 60s I had a s45 ( I think that's the torch ) machine torch ordered with it ( $550 option ) because I wanted to be able to use the hand torch without taking it on and off my cnc table all the time. When I bought the torch I asked them if it would be fully compatible with my torchmate cnc and they said it would be. After messing with the wiring to get the thing to actually fire when it was supposed to the second issue I'm now having is the thing didn't come with a gear rack to adjust the height of the torch on the fly... Which is a big nuisance. The torch does however look like it can be outfitted with a rack, it has a flat spot machined into the body with two threaded holes at the top and bottom as if to receive a rack. The question I have is where do I find one ? Please help!

Those parts are usually supplied by the CNC maker. Check with Torchmate. Standard gear rack can be found at McMaster Carr. I guess Hypertherm does supply a rack on their torches.

Is this what you are talking about? Without a pinion and a clamp release, it doesn't lend itself to adjustment. However, the Z axis drive should allow on the fly height adjustment, no problem, just not as much range.

Yes that is exactly what I'm talking about, however I don't have the avhc on mine but the machine torch holder that TM sells has a pinion gear with an adjustment know to move the torch up and down while traveling, it also has a clamp to hold the torch tight in whatever position ( up and down ) you set it in. And I've called TM and they said all the Lincoln, hypertherm... Etc come with them on there torches and I'd have to get ahold of them to find out. I just wish it was as easy as the torches coming equipped with one. I will check out McMaster and see what is available..

Also I was wondering if you can buy different types of consumables for finer cuts with these torches like you can with a hypertherm ?

Now I got ya. Yeah without a Z, the hand adjust would be nice to have. Check with Lincoln, Miller, Hypertherm to see if you can order it as a part. Or McMaster, but you might not know what pitch or pressure angle you need. I would guess even if Trafimet had one it would probably be metric. Such is life.

Give Oleg a call and I'm sure he can set you up with the various options. I know you can for the hand torches, so I'm sure some interchange with the machine torches.

Not a lot of different consumables for the S-75. Only a long/short. The new s-65 which we do not carry, has multiple cons, and the S105 has shielded/ unshielded consumables. But we only stock the standard ones for the S-75 that I am aware of. There's a 1.0 and 1.2 mm.

Alright I guess I'll have to do some shopping around. Just to reassure, if you have avhc you do not need a rack correct? Thanks for the help!
