    Default Howzitgoin...

From Toronto/Mississauga area. Been in HVAC biz since 1973. Mostly industrial/institutional. The past 25 years its been mostly boilers. I've dabbled in welding from time to time over that period but never actually made money doing it. As of the past few years I've been looking for a hobby that'll carry me into retirement and beyond. I've always liked welding so I thought why not Metalart?! The only welders I've ever worked with at the large Miller and Lincoln stick welders and tig welders that weigh about as much as my Ram 2500. Then I noticed one day these small inverter machines. Did some research and found Everlast. To say I was impressed would be wrong. I was intrigued however. I went down to my local welding suppliers and started asking some questions about the construction and technology behind them. Seems that ones like Thermal Arc are made in China and even Lincoln makes theirs overseas. Miller use parts made in China although they say they are built in the USA. Price started to be an issue. I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that these manufacturers were asking for the farm for a unit that was a bit misleading. Reading the reviews it became obvious that there was a lot of prejudicial reviews and that many posters on other forums were parroting what these others were saying without even knowing the truth. So I started looking at Everlast again. The decision has been made and the money is in the bank. This ol' fart is buying the 200DX TIG welder and the 50 plasmacutter. What sold me was not only the quality but the after purchase support.

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll be happy with your new welder and plasma cutter. I was the same way as you when I first started looking into Everlast...Intrigued but not impressed, until I saw the videos from WT&T where Jody was comparing the Everlast machines to the other (big name) Red and Blue machines. The prices on the Red and Blue machines is really a lot, if you're only a hobbyist. Plus the fact you're getting parts (and/or assembly) from china when buying Red and Blue. Everlast never claims to be made in the USA, but I think the fact their customer service is in the US really sets them apart. Anyways, good luck with your new purchases and your metal art! Post pics of the art if you can.

Welcome and I hope your ownership experience is similar to most. I purchased a 200dx last year and arrived at the decision much in the same way you did. The end conclusion for me was simple- 5year warranty and 1/3 the cost of an equivalent. An inverter machine is not something I or most owners can self-repair.
That said, enjoy it and show us some of your work when you get going.

Thanks y'all! We'll see how it goes. Haven't had a chance to fire it up yet. Busy with work. Here's hoping sometime next week. Still collecting metals, etc. lots of SS and copper. It'll be interesting!

I guess it can work as a gouging rod for aluminum... Whatever floats yer boat...

I'll be picking up the Tig welder this week. Talked with the folks at Everlast in Burlington and they were more than accommodating. Looks like it'll be a good experience!
Plasma cutter will be next month most likely...
