Thread: Just received Dual Voltage 200DX TIG Welder

Default Just received Dual Voltage 200DX TIG Welder

I have spent a little time playing with my new Dual Voltage 200DX Welder. I'm working on getting used to using the settings to weld mild steel and aluminum. I have been using a CK9 torch with Superflex Hose which is much easier for me to use on the small stuff. In addition, I have been using the foot pedal that was included with the welder purchase.

I have never used pulse before and was anxious to try it out on a corner joint on a couple of .075 in. steel strips. I set the Amperage to 65 Amps, Pulse Switch to low, Pulse Frequency to about 1 PPS, Pulse Amps to 30%, and Pulse Time On to 50%. I used my CK9 Torch with 1/16 in. E3 Tungsten. I tacked the strips together on the ends with filler rod. There was no filler rod used to run the bead down the corner joint. I was very happy with the results. Since I am new to TIG welding, I need all the help I can get and pulse really helped me get good results in this application. Oh yea, and did I mention I like the PowerTig 200DX so far?

Welcome also MBfrontier to the Everlast forum. Did you use 120V or 240V to weld your corners together and I like your green hose cover.

It was plugged into 220V. The green hose cover is 1in. tubular webbing left over from my mountaineering days (Many moons ago). I had a roll of about 60 feet left over so I put it over the Superflex hose. It is a little stiffer than it was but still much better than some of the larger torch setups.

Hey, m j mauer, where in Andover are you? I'm very close to the Thompson Drag Strip.

I have been practicing different welds with this 200 DX Dual Voltage welder. Yesterday, I welded a lap and butt joint. The lap joint is a little undercut on the top and the butt joint I thought looked pretty good. I have been taking the advice of many accomplished TIG welders on several websites that say "The best way to learn to TIG weld is with hood time". I am continuing to improve but have a way to go. Here's a picture of yesterday's lap and butt joint:
