Thread: Clean-Up after Jig Saw cuts

  1. Default Clean-Up after Jig Saw cuts

I use a Jig Saw to make most, if not all of my cuts. I notice a little contamination at times, especially when starting and or tacking. The cuts are straight but too rough to wipe down.
Do you guys suggest filing smooth so I can Acetone wipe or just Stainless brushing?

Interesting idea- just so I'm clear, you use this on aluminum? If the angle aren't too great you might use a flap wheel.

I try to use a carbide deburing tool on a die grinder if possible, if not i use a clean file to smooth things up. Jig saws and band saw blades tend to leave unwanted dirt and debri in the area where you did the saw work.
I just repaired a rigid pipe fitting tool used to pull 2 pipes together the aluminum handle had one lug busted off and i had to use a coping saw to remove what was left. The Die grinder did a great job cleaning it up and i made a new lug from a piece of 1/4" wall aluminum tube welded it and the repair worked great.

I've given some areas a shot of acetone and then hit them with a wire brush if the area is a little rough.

Yes my experience with grinding disc's flap wheels ect is the amount of foreign matter they leave on the material, Next to a Stainless steel brush the carbide tool is the best way i have found to clean up aluminum for welding. My cutoff saw has a Non Ferous saw blade in it and leaves a clean cut that just requires acetone.
