Thread: Not sure how to hook up new tig torch

  1. Default Not sure how to hook up new tig torch

I just bought a weld craft wp-9 tig torch with a ck line and the place I bought it from said I would need some sort of an adapter to make it work... But I'm not sure what one or IF I can even make this work? Any help would be appreciated. I'll post a pic below... And I'm using a powertig 210EXT.

Everlast sells the full CK line, plug and play for Everlast machines... call sales for the proper dinse connector.

You'll need a CK adapter, but without knowing which line you got etc, it's going to be hard. The place you bought it from should be able to sell you the right CK adapter. The CK adapters by themselves, when bought outside of a package kit is about 75.00. Bought with one of our complete packages, that's almost half the total price of what we sell the complete kit for.

The thing I'd recommend is to go back and get an adapter from the place you bought it from, and make sure it will interchange, or return it for a refund, and by a plug and play kit from us...likely for not a lot more money.

    Edit:

After reviewing the post, I see it's for a 210. This unit currently isn't compatable with the CK connector.

You just need to figure out which size dinse is on your machine and which size inert arc fitting is on the end of your TIG torch lead. Then you can order the right adapter.

There are adapters available for all conceivable combinations - check out:

The stock torch with the 210 is a pretty good one. If it split, then there was something wrong obviously, but those torches have been holding up well. It is NOT a flex head, and would split if you tried to bend it. We can and will replace it if its under the 6 month warranty unless of course you tried to bend it.

The CK connector's chamfer on the end is too shallow and will not fit all the way down into the hole when you twist it in. You can trim the hard plastic off, or grind a groove into it so it will fit, or leave the cover off, though I don't recommend not having something there around the connector. You can buy a weldcraft which is usually soft rubber material, and will fit, if not it is easily trimmed. However, most other brands do work. I'm really not a fan of building up frankestein torches as you get into compatability of thread issues. There are several things you can do. This is a relatively minor issue, and is easily resolved.

That "9" you just bought is only good for 125 amps, maximum DC and 90 amps AC...or it won't last long either and will melt down.

You can also see if the connector on your old torch will unscrew and fit your cable.

You can use a regular DINSE adapter to hook up your torch. I believe it's just not the safe loc from CK as the plastic housing is too big. The Weldcraft one should fit just fine I believe the part number is Q5G-150 for WP-9. No idea why they didn't sell you that as a DINSE package from Weldcraft. CK offers the correct quick release fitting for the argon as a plug and play setup, where with Weldcraft you will have to transfer the one from your old torch. There are always ways to make things work, welding machines are getting more and more standardized all the time, but there is still some room for improvement. Torch makers still sell cables that fit nothing, out of the box, and require installation kits for each brand. Someday I hope they start offering cables with DINSE factory terminations. They would be a lot more compact and durable than the huge adapters that are required now. Almost all brands have gone to DINSE, with only a few hold outs.

BTW: if you really want to use the CK safe loc plug, I bet you can do so with a short male to female DINSE whip cable.

Thanks for the help I'm hoping that I will be able to get this connected, i went on the CK web site and it seems like what I need is one of those dinse connectors with and external gas line and then need to some how rig up the gas line coming out of the torch lead to fit the quick connect gas coupler on the machine it self... Is that how it's supposed to be done ?

There is a part number for a CK adapter with the proper Everlast quick connector for the argon. (SL2-35LG or SL2-35QD) The problem is that the plastic housing from CK is huge and doesn't quite physically fit the front panel on the 210EXT. See Mark's post about trimming to fit.
Your other options are to use a Weldcraft adapter (Q5G-150), and that will require that you re-use the quick connect fitting off your old torch and transfer it to the new one.
Or if you make up a short cable with male and female DINSE, you can use the CK with no interference problem.
There are a few ways to make your combination work, you just have to decide what will work best for you.

Here you can see the size differences.
